No one beats Untourists Bill & Eleanor Kover for striking up unforgettable conversations.

"Eleanor & Genevieve at Notre Dame Cathedral, Paris, France, April 28, 2008, 11:18am. While I was climbing the tower at Notre Dame, Eleanor went inside to people watch. She was soon joined by a Parisian named Genevieve, who spoke just a little English. By the time I returned, Eleanor had received much advice on eating healthy foods. Genevieve starting giving Eleanor food from her bag...two almonds, a banana, French bread,a small chocolate as well as a St. Christopher emblem.
