Important Ideas
1. The Equation E=mc^2
2. The Theory of Relativity
3. The Photoelectric Effect
4. Brownian Motion
This is perhaps the most famous equation
in history. The atomic bomb is based on it
because it theorized that large amounts of
energy could be stored in small amounts
of matter. The equation itself means energy is equal to mass times the speed of light squared.
The theory of Relativity
Einstein determined that the laws of physics are the same for all non-accelerating observers; & that the speed of light is independent of the motion of all observers. He also found that massive objects cause a distortion in space time known as gravity.
The Photoelectric Effect
Study of the photoelectric effect led to important steps in understanding the quantum nature of light and electrons and influenced the formation of the concept of wave–particle duality.
Brownian Motion
The random movement of microscopic particles suspended in a liquid or gas, caused by the collisions with molecules of the surrounding medium. This is called Brownian Motion and until Einstein the motion was unexplained.

Outgrowths of his work
His Annalen der Physik papers uncovered the nature of light, created the framework for experiments that showed matter is composed of atoms, and developed the Theory of Relativity which caused us to change our view of mass energy and time.
All of that at the age of 26.
Fun facts
- Einstein didn't wear socks that often
- He was a slow learner as a child
- He failed his university entrance exam
- He married his first cousin
- Einstein's eyes are in a safe in NYC
- Einstein didn't know how to drive
- He couldn't remember phone numbers, names or dates well.
- His nobel prize was for the Photoelectric Effect
- The man who Autopsied Einstein stole his brain and kept it in a jar for 20 years.
Quotes
- "Try not to become a man of success, but rather a man of value."
- "The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination."
- "We can not solve our problems with the same thinking that created them."
- "The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits."
- "Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new"
