Who we are, what we do, and how we work

Who we are
Webscope is a web development, design, and user experience consultancy, located in Ponsonby, Auckland.
We are dedicated to using open source tools to create software with a purpose.

What we do
Our clients hire us to design and build websites that work.
For a website to work it must be:

Desirable

Visible

Viable

Measurable

Success Story
The Haps
A private, social network-like tool, that allows students from local and indigenous communities around Oceania to create, collaborate and share their creative projects in a safe, digital environment.

The Haps

How we work
We deliver working software to you as efficiently as possible under a timeline, budget and scope you control.

Getting to know you
We spend some time getting to know you, your business, and your aspirations. This gives us an idea of how a website could help your business (and generally involves plenty of coffee, cake and post it notes).
Personas
We work with you to identify the target market of your product or service; who they are, what they want, and why they want it. We call them Personas: people with a purpose.

Student
Wants a place to talk to peers and share their creative work.

Goals
We work with you to identify business and user goals and turn them into plain english stories.
As a student, I want to
message my studio.

User flows
Each goal is turned into a user flow that illustrates how we expect a user to complete it.

Minimum Viable Product
We work with you to decide which goals should be part of the minimum viable product (MVP) - that is the smallest set of complete, marketable goals that will bring you a return on investment.

Wireframes and Design
We take the goals from the minimum viable product, and construct interactive wireframes and high fidelity screen mockups so we can agree how things will look and how a user will navigate through the site to complete the goals.

Goal Estimates
As a team, we look at each goal and assign a rating to it based on how much effort we think it will take to complete.

Sprint Estimates
We can then split those goals into iterations of work called Sprints to determine how many Sprints we will need to complete the MVP.

What are Sprints
Sprints are a clearly defined two-week block of work with a fixed cost. By knowing how many Sprints we need to complete the MVP, we can give you an accurate cost.
Reducing risk
We ensure the stability and accuracy of both the project and the final website by;
- setting concise expectations and deliverables,
- creating automated tests for critical goals,
- using continuous integration to automatically build and test the website whenever a change is made,
- responding quickly and efficiently to change by using a just-in-time, agile process.

Giving you control
You now have the control to set your own scope, timeline, and budget by deciding;
- which goals need to be included,
- which sprint they should be included in,
- and how many sprints are needed to launch your minimum viable product.

What we don't do
- spend hours of budget producing monolithic, unwieldy
specification documents, - spend hours of budget manually testing,
- spend hours of budget trying to do everything,
- hide our costs and process from you,
- enforce a timeline, scope and budget
- disappear for 3 months before unveiling your website.

The Result
Desirable
Usable
Reliable
Functional
