Production and distribution companies

What will this presentation focus on?


I will be focusing on the "Big Six" major production and distribution companies and how their company idents differ.

I will also be exploring MGM which is another major film studio.

Columbia pictures

This company was founded in 1919 by Cohn-Brandt-Cohn.  It is a subsidiary of Japanese conglomerate Sony and forms part of the Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group owned by Sony Pictures. It released its first feature film in August 1922.


WARNER bROS

Founded in April 1923, it is a subsidiary of Time Warner.  It is branded as one of the major film studios and has several subsidiary companies. It also owns half of The CW Television Network.


walt Disney pictures

This company was founded in 1923 and is a division of The Walt Disney Company.


Universal

Founded by Carl Laemmle in 1912. This company is one of oldest American movie studios still producing films. Through its subsidiary NBC Universal Television Distribution, it has a good amount of TV shows.

20th Century Fox

The company was founded on May 31 1935. It is a merger of Fox Film Corporation founded by William Fox in 1915 and Twentieth Century Pictures in 1933.


Paramount pictures

It was founded in 1912 and is currently owned by Viacom, a  media conglomerate. It is America's oldest film studio and has numerous top-grossing films.

metro Goldwyn mayer

This company was founded in 1924 and is involved in the production and distribution of films and television programs. On November 2010, the company filed for bankruptcy and a month later, they emerged from it.
