Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

The preliminary task allowed me to gain an insight on my ability and skills with camera work and editing. Since this task was done in the beginning of the year, this was a clear indication on how I was able to complete each shot type and how I can edit the shots to make an effective sequence. From this, I was able to improve as I was able to learn from the mistakes I made in the process of making the preliminary task.

My Preliminary Task

Firstly, what I learnt from the preliminary task was how to actually film each shot type. What I mean by this is that whilst preparing and creating the storyboard for the task, I was able to identify each shot type and how each shot type should be completed successfully. This is why I was able to film the shot types however, I hadn't practised filming the shot types prior to this task so the task allowed me to grasp an understanding on practical side on filming. Therefore, I was able to practise filming which was very useful before filming my main task because I was able to learn the strengths and weaknesses of my filming ability.

Secondly, I also learnt more about editing from the preliminary task. Previously, I hadn't edited a sequence of video clips before so this was an useful lesson which allowed me to understand how I can effectively edit video clips so that a narrative is brought across. Therefore, for my final product, I had many more clips I need to edit so the preliminary task gave me a helping hand in managing video clips.

Moreover, despite using Windows Movie Maker several times before, it is only during the process of editing my preliminary task that I edited video clips on this program. I had only used Movie Maker to edit images so this too was lesson in itself trying to edit video clips. As a result, the preliminary task gave me a chance to test out an editing program and whilst doing this, I was able to explore the different transitions and effects that are available on editing programs in case I wanted to apply any to my final product.
