Small Group Practice

Scenario

You issue a demerit for talking. The scholar rolls their eyes and slouches.

Auto-Detention

  • Talks back to a demerit without significant disrespect
  • Rolls eyes in response to a demerit
  • Refuses to fix behavior after receiving a demerit for that same behavior

Referral

  • Earns 5 demerits
  • Flips off another student
  • Responds in a verbally disrespectful way to a demerit/redirect
  • Causes a major disruption that prevents the continued learning in class

Auto-Detention

  • Name the action, and that is is an auto-detention
  • Name the appropriate response, and that you will have a follow up conversation if done correctly
  • Follow Up

Response to Auto-Detention = Referral

Small Group Practice

Referrals: Knowing When

  • The actions of a scholar threaten the dignity of another scholar
  • The actions of a scholar threaten the dignity of a teacher
  • The actions of a scholar prevent the continuation of learning
