How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Front Cover

The word ‘Rock’ isolates the rock genre away from the others. This genre is unique but also well known, meaning that the target audience can easily be known,

‘Live’ conveys that the magazine is based around live music this conforms to the Rock Genre as it can be focused mainly about the music being Live.

‘Smashing’ conveys the idea that those who follow the rock genre like smashing music, for example: Head banging, which does not conform to normal behaviour.

The body language and way that the artist is stood on the front cover shows that it is the typical way for the rock body language, along with holding the guitar which also goes back to represent the live music.

The main image on my front cover represents the particular social group the magazine is aimed at. The body language of the artist and because she is holding a guitar shows that this magazine is not aimed at a pop social group, it is aimed more towards the rock social groups.

The language used on my front cover is bold and formal, this is because since my magazine is aimed at 15-18 year olds, the writing can be more formal as it flows more easily and suit the age range.

The colour scheme of my front cover was decided on from the results of the questionnaire, if which i asked the target audience. Since I chose the colours from my results, the colour throughout my magazine represents the particular social group for my magazine.

The positioning statement on my front cover is used to attract in the specific social group by relating to them and making the group interested in the magazine.

Contents Page

The Masthead on the contents page is the biggest and boldest writing as it is grabbing the attention of the reader/social group, also telling the reader that this is the contents page.

By featuring a teenage rock band in the contents page, the magazine goes to represent that the rock genre as those that follow it, who will like to go to gigs and listen to the live music that specific bands offer.

Body language is another key thing which is used throughout my production work. It represents that the artist is into the music and can give a big hint of the genre.

Images on the contents page all relate to the targeted social group and age range, representing the different things they are interested in.

The language on the contents page is the same as the front cover, as it is formal, this is because it is showing information, letting it flow more easily, allowing the audience to read it.

Double Page Spread

The body language of the band make it look like they are into the music, as it is a Live performance, represents the live music part of the genre.

The name of the band can be seen as the title of the double page spread. It also gives a representation of the band and genre.

The idea of live music and the band being into the music is reinforced within the interview, it shows that the band is generally interested in what they are doing and they love performing for their fans.
