Fact: More Canadians are in temporary employment today compared to 10 years ago. According to Statistics Canada, up to 15% of our workers are in jobs that are not classified as "permanent", compared to less than 10% in the 1990s.

Part of the increase in temporary jobs (typically part-time jobs) , often obtained through a recruitment agency) is voluntary. Because there are obvious benefits for those who want flexibility.

Changes in employer recruitment strategies are another explanation. The more frequent use of just-in-time hiring allows companies to cope with increased competition, new technologies and changing demand.
