THE LEADERSHIP AWARD
DESIGN PROCESS
Research
Stage 1:
What is a leader?
Research

- Our focus was to understand what leadership truly represented within a creative context.
- We began by creating a Mural and typed out words that we thought connected to leadership.
A Leader is Like Fire!
Research
- Continuing our research, we gravitated towards fire being a main element for the award design, as we felt this represented leadership.
- We looked up diverse methods for manipulating paper

Phoenix
Research

- After gathering our research, we as a team collated concepts that could represent strength, vision, and guidance.
- We explored different elements related to mythology, favouring the award concept of the phoenix.
Paper Phoenix
Research

- We looked up diverse methods for manipulating paper and how some people had made a phoenix from it.
- After a while pondering the paper phoenix concept, we decided this style would potentially be too complicated to put together and with it being paper as our material.

Presentation
- I started putting together the client presentation. First stage required organising slides into a creative design process that followed the chronological story.
- This was completed by naming each slide to finalise the order of events. Next, all collated information based on our design boards in Mural were expressed appropriately within the slide story order.

Conclusion
Stage 4:
Conclusion
- After the client presentation, we were met with critiques about the Leadership Award prototype. One such critique was they were not satisfied with the creative direction of flames engulfing the quill as it appeared too visually overwhelming to the client.
- By the end we concluded that the lantern was a great idea, but the main issue was the internal design aspects, thus modifying this into a ‘spark’ instead of the original ‘quill and flame’ would better satisfy the clients specifications.
