Documentaries with the same target audience as our documentary
After the viewing of a few documentaries I have managed to acquire more knowledge about the making of documentaries such as the way the documentary has to be filmed when producing a documentary which is particularly aimed at a target audience of what is considered to be young adults. The techniques and styles that I have noticed when filming a documentary for a mature younger audience, is the use of humor to keep the viewers interested as the audience are young adults and do not generally want to watch a serious documentary, however there is some element of seriousness within most of the documentaries to make the viewers think about the issues that are being pressed within the documentary. This means that they can leave an impact on the viewer in order to persuade them to think about and maybe change their opinion on the issues they are challenging. Most documentaries for young adults involve people who are of the same age range as the audience as the viewers can relate to the documentary better this way as they will have experienced the same things as the people in the documentary and probably live their lives the same way as well.
Documentary example with a similar target audience
This documentary was aired on BBC Three just like our documentary is going to be. As BBC Three's target audience is young adults it also means that this documentary applies to the same target audience as well. This documentary is also about technology just like our documentary however this documentary is pressing a different argument about the technolgy companies where as we will be looking at the ways in which technology has advanced and how much we depend on it on a day to day basis

Documentaries solely based on technology go with a different style as the narrator is normally filmed as the voice of god style of narration however there are also some elements of them using the voice of authority especially when doing voxpops and interviews so that the viewer can see that the interview is actually happening live so you are able to see the narrators reaction to the response of the person who they are interviewing is this allows the viewer to see the way that the narrator feels about the interviewees story which makes the viewer think about the topic in more depth and maybe even change their ways to prevent these things happening to them.

Super Size Me Analysis
Super Size Me is a documentary directed by and starring Morgan Spurlock. The documentary is focused on the dangers of fast food and to show the dangers Morgan Spurlock documents himself as he goes on a 30 Day McDonalds ONLY Diet to show the viewers the danger binge eating can have to peoples health. In this documentary Morgan undergoes a challenge of 30 days only eating food from McDonalds, this is important to me as we are planning to also go through a challenge of 30 days with out using technology for our documentary which meant we could take this into account and use Super Size Me to improve our documentary. The codes and conventions used in Super Size Me include interviews with experts, archival footage, reconstructions using animation, voice of god and the voice of authority. Super Size Me follows a Linear time line following continuity as the challenge has to flow accordingly with all the vox pops etc within the documentary. Super Size Me uses Expository, Participatory, Reflexive and there are also some aspects of Observational modes. By looking at this documentary I have gained knowledge on the codes and conventions used in documentaries with similar topics, this then means I have the ability to apply the skills I have learned to our finished documentary.

The second documentary I analysed was another BBC documentary as our documentary will also be aired on BBC Three. This documentary focused on technology just like our documentary as well however it focuses on video game addiction. By analysing this documentary I was able to gain a deeper insight into the codes and conventions that other documentaries with the same topic follow. by looking at these different codes and conventions I was able to add to the documentary using modes and narrative structures to make the documentary look professional. Some of the codes and conventions I noticed whilst analysing this documentary included: narrative structure using the voice of god style and the voice of authority style, archival footage from adverts, interviews with experts and vox pops, visual coding and the use of set ups in order to show how people go through their daily lives. The modes used in this documentary include Expository, Participatory and Reflexive modes.
The BBC Documentary about technology corporations followed many conventions and had a very linear narrative structure as the documentary clearly flowed from the start to the finish of the documentary. The certain codes and conventions the documentary followed included the use of different narrative styles such as the 'Voice of God' narrative style and also the 'Voice of Authority' Narrative style using both these styles of narration gives the documentary a diverse feel. There was also the use interviews and vox pops to see what both the public and experts think about the big corporations and the way they control a big portion of the market they are in such as the company 'Apple'. There is also use of visual coding during the interviews with experts as the experts are postioned to show that they are experts on the subject through using mise en scene to show this. The modes this documentary use are the Expository mode, Participatory mode and the Reflexive mode. All these modes are used together in order to create an informative documentary where the viewer can see multiple points of view.
