Don't Railroad your Teachers with PD 

empower teachers with individualized options

   -personal learning contracts

   -breakout sessions in traditional format

   -teaching groups, "book club" style

      (Glickman, et al., 2001; Sanfelippo & Sinanis, 2016; Gustafson, 2016)

choice matters 

being provided with choice fills our inherent

need for autonomy (Hidi, 2016)

truly effective PD is not coerced but formulated

based on contextual needs (Guskey, 2009)

set practical goals, and report on them (Knowles, 1986)

recognize different types of professional learning (Gamrat, et al., 2014)

Providing Individualize PD builds intrinsic motivation

and provides an opportunity for self-determined engagement

in professional learning (Vansteenkiste, et al., 2006; Cerasoli, et al., 2014)
