- The Alpenhorn is considered a "labrophone", which were mostly used in Switzerland.
- The time in which this communication device was used dates back to 1527.
- Conrad Gesner gave the very first detailed description of the horn.
- The horn was used as a signal during war and at funerals to honor the dead.
- Drums were used as a source of communication in Africa, New Guinea and the Tropical America.
- There are different types of drums used in the communication of drumming. These drums include "talking drums" and "slit drums"
- Talking drums are drums that can be regulated to mimic the tone of human speech, so that the drum sounds like its talking. Hense the name "talking drum"
- Slit drums aren't really drums. They are idiophones. They are hollow and are usually constructed of bamboo or wooden boxes. They contain 1-3 large slits.
