According to the 2018 National Task Force on Women in Science report, only 15% of India's R&D workforce is women, against the global average of 30%.
Root Cause: Gender Mindset

The most important cause of gender inequality is the prevailing gender mentality.
Gender bias starts from childhood, reinforced by textbooks and social norms.
Parents, teachers and educational institutions often discourage girls from pursuing science.
Institutional constraints.

Participation in scientific conferences such as the Indian Science Congress is generally limited for women, especially in key roles.
In 2021 and 2022, 23 winners were men, and CSIR(
Council of Scientific & Industrial Research) did not recognize any women scientists for their contributions.
