Code of Conduct
West Coast Amateur Football Club is committed to providing recreational and sporting facilities for the Club’s members, supporting the game of Australian Rules Football in our local community, all the way from Auskick up to WAFL level.
In doing this, we expect members to uphold the values our club holds dear and adhere to the WAAFL's Spirit of the Game statement, with particular emphasis on the values of good sportsmanship, integrity and mutual respect.
The club maintains a strong volunteer culture - many hands make light work. We expect members to treat the club as if it was their own home. You are always welcome, but do not wait to be asked to help - show initiative, take ownership.
Clubs such as ours provide members with a chance to achieve something, as a collective, which is far greater than that which any individual could achieve by themselves. The role of the Committee, Coaches and Leadership Group is to instil the club's values across the broader group, nurturing leadership skills in the next generation and helping to develop players into well-rounded young men and valued members of the community. Football is simply the vehicle by which we do this.
It is every member’s responsibility to ensure that this mantra is passed on to the next generation and that you leave the club in a better position than when you arrived. People move through the club as part of different eras, but responsibility for the club’s legacy rests with you.
- Whether it be on a club jumper, shirt, singlet or otherwise, whenever you wear the mighty Tigers logo you represent West Coast Amateur Football Club and are expected to behave accordingly.
- Play hard, play fair - abide by the rules of the AFL and WAAFL competition at all times.
- The umpire is always right - we could not play football without them, we respect and value the crucial role that umpires play in our great game.
- Recognise and abide by the responsible consumption of alcohol policies according to the Club, WAAFL and Liquor Licensing guidelines. All drinking of alcohol is banned outside the licensed area and will be policed.
- Members are responsible for the conduct of their guests whilst on club premises.
- Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all participants regardless of their gender, ability, race, religion, colour or cultural background. Vilification will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
The club has adopted policies in respect of Vilification and Discrimination, Racial and Religious Tolerance, Respect and Responsibility, Disability, Bullying, Risk Management and maintaining a Healthy Club. These policies are available on the club's website and will be reviewed by the Committee from time to time. Members are expected to comply with the requirements of these policies, and may be subject to complaints processes in the event of any alleged breach.

Registration
All players who take the field to play for the club must be registered:
- on Sporting Pulse - the national database of every AFL footballer. This is especially important as it ensures that players are covered by Insurance as well as powering the transfer system for players who move between clubs. Email tigers@wcafc.com.au with any queries or speak to our Registrars or your Pod Leader; and
- to play for the club - which means paying your registration fees
The club offers a range of membership levels and payment options. Our preferred method is for you to register online and pay via TidyHQ - https://westcoast.tidyhq.com/public/memberships/new. Otherwise the club has Eftpos facilities where you can pay by card, or give cash directly to the Treasurer.

Volunteering is an important part of being part of our club. It takes a huge amount of time and money to run the club, members' volunteer efforts goes some way towards bridging that gap. Volunteering is also integral to the role we play in the local community, supporting initiatives like Activ City To Surf for many years, and charity events such as the Forever15 game, which raised in excess of $30,000 for brain cancer research.
As part of being a member of West Coast Amateur Football Club, we expect all Tigers to commit to a minimum of 10 hours volunteering over the course of the season. This can be in support of club's on-field or off-field activities, charity work or a combination thereof. Volunteering Coordinators maintain a roster to help during the season.

Development Pathway
Colts
Ressies
League
The development of our young players is crucial to the club's future. We invest heavily in our coaching staff and have implemented a structured "development pathway" program to support this.
We strive to provide the best environment for young footballers to play at the highest level appropriate
to their ability, age, size and fitness.
How it works
1. Development players identified
2. Players decide if they want to take part in pathway program, parental input required
3. Development players invited to join Senior training - the first step getting used to footy against bigger bodies
4. If/when coaches decide players are ready for elevation to Seniors - Colts players are picked in groups of 3-4. You will NOT be picked to go up by yourself - it is important to have mates up there with you
5. Colts players are elevated to Reserves and given a couple of weeks to settle - if players are comfortable at Senior level and keen to press on then they will be given the chance to push for selection in the League team.
Insurance
All WAAFL players are covered under a Personal Injury policy. Our club maintains insurance at the bronze level.
What it covers
- 50% of gap between Medicare and Private Health cover (up to $2,000; $100 excess)
- $750k quadriplegia/paraplegia
What it doesn't cover
- Loss of Income is not covered
- Life Insurance is not covered
The club recommends that all players maintain private health insurance cover.
More information is available on the WAAFL website
http://www.waafl.com.au/resources-/insurance
Concussion
If you believe that you, a teammate or another player may be concussed, please advise a trainer immediately.
- Any player with suspected concussion should be removed from play immediately.
- Trainers will then complete a Concussion Test and umpires advised if the player fails. They must take no further part in the game.
If you have been concussed
1) Stay hydrated, avoid alcohol, do not drive
2) Medical Clearance is required before you return for training or games. The club must submit your medical certificate to the WAAFL before you are cleared to resume playing
A player with suspected concussion should not be left alone. Wake them every 2-3 hours during the night to ensure they are OK
Competition Integrity
A player is only permitted to play in the WAAFL as an AMATEUR.
The WAAFL defines an AMATEUR as one who does not receive or agree to receive, either directly or indirectly, any remuneration or reward whatsoever (eg. match payments, goal bonuses, expenses) in respect to their participation as a player in the WAAFL.
A paid coach may be permitted to play, however there is a salary cap per team and other restrictions in place, as per the By-Laws.
Players are permitted to receive match day awards, however these are limited to $500 per team, no more than $200 for an individual.
The club is required to report any player who asks for payment outside these rules. Fines / suspensions are prescribed by WAAFL.
If you have concerns regarding these rules, or anything else you see around the club which may conflict with Competition Integrity, please relay these to the Club Integrity Officer.
The club must obtain WAAFL approval for any player member who receives remuneration for any task (eg. bar work, cleaning, etc) and their exemption recorded on the WAAFL Register of Interests.

Club History
West Coast Amateur Football Club commenced its involvement with the WAAFL in 1984, with players having previously represented Floreat Park AFC (1960), Marist Old Boys AFC (1970) and the City Beach "All Stars" (1975).
In 2001, the club merged with Cowan University, forming West Coast Cowan AFC, and going on to win the coveted WAAFL Champion Club award later that year.
Highlights in West Coast's short but decorated history include three consecutive Colts flags in the club's first three years; winning the A Grade "League" premiership in 1994, under esteemed coach, John Dimmer; and back-to-back "League" flags in 2006 and 2007, taking the club's premiership tally to an impressive twenty.
This year marks West Coast's 34rd in the WAAFL competition and the 43rd of amateur football at City Beach Oval. In pursuing our Strategic Plan, the club recently completed a major upgrade to our clubrooms facilities and invested in match-standard floodlighting to provide the best possible environment for our young Tigers.
Now entrenched in the WAAFL's premier A Grade competition, and with a young list brimming with excellent footballers, outstanding coaches and a strong management committee, we look forward to continued on-field and off-field success in 2017 and beyond!
