Youtube on repeat: YouTube now indicates the video clips' most-repeated segments so you may skip the dull ones.

 

In its web player and mobile apps, YouTube will now highlight the video segments that have been "most repeated." The function is now available to all users after previously only being tested with YouTube Premium subscribers.

A graph that shows behind a video's progress bar will let you know which sections are the most popular. According to YouTube, if the graph is high, that section of the film has been viewed a lot. The graph can be used to rapidly locate and view those moments.

Pretty easy! However, it's intriguing to consider how this might divert viewers' attention or even direct producers' work by providing them with another another cue to know just what audiences want to see (an aspect of the platform that some YouTubers say creates unwanted pressure).

 

 

The feature is one of several enhancements the firm is introducing, some of which are brand-new and others of which are not, that effectively seek to cut up larger films into more manageable and accessible portions. Included among these are a fresh method of looping specific segments of videos that was introduced last year but wasn't formally revealed (more on that here), and a forthcoming test for Premium subscribers that will allow users to "seek to the exact spot in a video that you want to view" (though YouTube is not offering any more detail on how that works right now). These complement YouTube's "chapters" function, which enables creators to segment videos into smaller units.

It's intriguing to see how the corporation is attempting to have its cake and eat it, too, given that YouTube has established itself as the home of long-form video on the internet.
