Code Studio

Learn computing concepts through a combination of online and unplugged activities. Unplugged lessons are hands-on and use physical manipulatives to model computational concepts.

The follow-up online lessons are self-guided and self-paced, and encourage exploration and practice of algorithmic thinking while using graphic coding blocks.

Code Studio

Using the Code Studio platform from code.org,

students create programs with loops, events, and conditionals, and write algorithms for everyday tasks.

Students learn meaningful collaboration with others, investigate different problem solving techniques, societal impacts of computing, and learn about Internet safety.

Our goals for this class:

Learn how to solve interesting problems,

and make cool things with the help of a computer.

As a final project, students will create their own game or story to share.

What is Computer Science?

The study of how computers work,

and what we can do with them.

Programming is simply one way to write out solutions.

What is Computational Thinking?

Integrating the power of human thinking

with

the capabilities of computers.

Using the fundamental concepts of Computer Science:

  • think about data and ideas
  • solve problems
  • design systems
  • understand human behavior

What is Computer Science?

The study of computation.

What can be computed,

and how to compute it.

Act like a Computer Scientist

Be Curious.

Ask Questions.

Be Persistent.

Break Big Problems into Smaller Manageable Parts.

Read Through Your Code.

Mistakes are learning opportunities.

Take a Break.

Keep in mind:

We are all learners.

Everyone begins at the beginning.

Learning to program takes time.

Everyone can do it!
