Narrative and Plots in acoustic Music Videos

As we choose Acoustic genre  for our final music video, for that we first need to know about the narrative and plots in acoustic music. So here are the analysis of some music videos.

Christina Perri’s"A Thousand Years,"

Christina Perri’s"A Thousand Years," a romantic song about the fear of falling in love, is a sleeper hit. It played during the credits of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn

this rendition is an acoustic duet featuring Tony Award-winner Steve Kazee from the Broadway show Once.

The video begins with Perri holding a candle. It features a few clips from the movie interspersed between scenes with Perri singing in a room with a floor full of candles. The video may include the voices from  Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson saying they love each other while in a wedding and also they can be heard in the background before the bridge. She ends the video singing into a sunset.

This song is about waiting for the one. You've waited your entire life and you finally found them. But that person is scared. Scared of falling, letting their walls down. Afraid of being hurt. And you just want to reassure them that you've waited so patiently for them and you would never do anything to hurt them. And you'll continue to be patient with them and you'd never do anything to hurt them.all you want to do is love them. This is a love song.

Christina Perri - Jar of Hearts

Lyrically the ballad revolves around an ex of Perri's, who sings personal lyrics. Jar of Hearts" has been described as an autobiographical song for Perri, recalling an ex-boyfriend who wanted to reconnect after a tough breakup.

"Jar of Hearts" is a moderate piano-rock song pacing in common time. The song consists simply of a piano melody and delicate strings. Additionally described as a wrenching, string-drenched ballad, the song features "angsty, unvarnished piano rock. "Jar of Hearts" is a rock-oriented tune that is about shunning the continued advances of a former flame who was ungrateful while together, yet now wants to rekindle a failed romance. It is described by the critics as "a wrenching, string-drenched ballad in which she delivers a kiss-off to an ex who won't stop hanging around.

The video begins with Perri on a stoop while black petals fall from the sky. As Perri begins walking, a smoke reflection is shown over her chest, showing that her "jar" is empty - her heart is missing. As the song continues, Perri walks through different scenarios of hearts being collected, all by the same man, whose "jar" is being filled. This includes an intimate moment in a car and another in a phone booth, both of which leave the women whose hearts are stolen (through their mouths) with empty jars. They fall unconscious away from the collector, a young man with dark hair. Towards the end of the video, Perri is watching as the collector, the love-interest, collects more hearts while dancing with different women. The video ends with Perri stealing a heart from him, leaving his "jar" empty. He falls to the ground, and she appears to recuperate with her heart newly intact.

Ella Henderson - Yours

"Yours" is a song written and recorded by English singer and songwriter Ella Henderson. “Yours” is the latest cut from Henderson’s debut album Chapter One. Ella has a beautiful voice and writes meaningful lyrics. The beautifully stripped ballad  gets an equally minimal visual in a city apartment, that shows the singer with her boyfriend in bed interjected with clips of her playing the tune on a piano. Ella Henderson’s newest music video for “Yours” brings together all that audiences have grown to appreciate in her craft. The track itself is a romantic ballad, filled with drama and powerful vocals. Directed by James Lees, the music video demonstrates Henderson’s cool, sultry style and persona. The scene opens up on a black-and-white city landscape, where Henderson finds herself singing to a lover sleeping close by in her apartment. Although the video has elements of a simply performance-oriented video, the drama in Henderson’s vocals coupled with his attention to relationships makes this music video memorable. A gloomy and monochromatic scene sets a bleak tone for Henderson’s musical, reflective moment. As the video develops, Henderson shifts through old photos and creates a feeling of nostalgia. More so than most music videos, which as more focused on plot, this video for “Yours” relies on allusion to carry on its message. Instead of being flashy and transparent, “Yours” shows more emotional depth. Henderson’s powerful performance needs only a tiny glimpse of reality to evoke a vivid understanding of the relationship she describes. The video visually concludes following the lyrics of the song, with the two embracing each other as Henderson sings, “I am yours.” Ultimately, the single and the video work together to be both romantic and entertaining, and contribute to Henderson’s vastly expanding musical identity. As she produces more high-quality music with powerful videos such as this one, Ella Henderson is sure to attain an even larger, more passionate fan-base. She is developing her own standards as an artist, and has placed the bar rather high for herself. the life of the inter textu

Jessie Ware - Say You Love Me

‘Say You Love Me’ is a song that is a whole lot less electronic although there are still enough sound effects to be found in the beautifully layered production and sounds more like a soul ballad. Of course, her vocals and lyrics have always been quite soulful, but this time around Jessie really wanted this aspect of her music to come to the front as she belts her way through the touching and emotional love song. In the last chorus she is even joined by a gospel choir which makes for an epic finale of the track. Although it sounds quite different from anything she has ever done so far, it still fits her perfectly and will definitely not stand out like a sore thumb on her new record.

Jessie Ware knows the value of simplicity. In the new video for “Say You Love Me,” the British soul singer sits atop a rock with a beachside backdrop behind her as she lets the words do the storytelling. The most exciting moment in the video is when she lets a bird land on her hand before it quickly flutters away. It’s a quiet and lovely treatment for a standout beautiful love song that the singer sings for her beloved.

“I Don’t Want To Change You”

“I Don’t Want To Change You” by Damien Rice is shot in Iceland and directed by music video vets Ari and Kinski, the video shows Rice sopping wet on a dock. “And if you just want to be alone/ I can wait without waiting,” he sings while stepping backwards towards the water. “And if you want me to let this go/ Well, I am more than willing/ I don’t want to change you/ I don’t want to change your mind.” Then Rice disappears into the water, slipping away from us almost seamlessly. The video shows Damien standing at the end of a dock, attempting to accept the finality of someone else's decision. As the lyrics detail his struggle to let go of love, the visuals mimic his battle by rewinding and replaying his plunges into the water. There's no better imagery to simulate how hard it is to disengage from a failing relationship than jumping in and out of an idyllic, isolated lake in Iceland. I think this is about getting ahead of yourself in a new relationship, caught up in a swirl of feelings that aren't wholly reciprocated. The singer makes his willingness to jump right in abundantly clear, despite getting a sense that their object of desire might not share their enthusiasm.  I find this is a very universal, heartbreaking feeling. You like someone, just as they are, and you want them so badly but it's OK if they don't want you back in that same way right now. You don't wish them ill. You still think they're swell. You just desperately need to move on. (Unless they call, and then you'll drop everything - dignity and all - to be with them.) The song is Daniel’s first single release after a long break and is full of soaring string harmonies that elegantly interweave with the vocal lines, sensitive crescendos and diminuendos on stylish phrases and Rice’s trademark crooning vocals. Rice’s voice has the effect of making everything he sings seem entirely earnest, which only adds to the emotion of the track. It’s everything fans could have wanted from a new single. The video, again Rice’s first in eight years, shows Rice singing in front of stunning lakeside scenery. The simplistic beauty of the video mirrors that in the track, and doesn’t overbear the song’s elegant nature. ‘I Don’t Want To Change You’ is more than worth the wait.
