How to find the right project

  • What skills you have
  • What you want to learn
  • Search in melange: use keywords
  • Find an organization
  • Search its wiki and pick a project you like or propose yours, ideally something you know/heard of

Approaching the org

  • Every org has a GSoC wiki, read it
  • Contact the mentor of the project
  • Subscribe to mailing list (usually written in wiki)
  • Introduce yourself to the ML and your interest in the project
  • Join irc discussions

How to write a good proposal

  • Do your search, learn about project, difficulties
  • Take notes all the time (worked for me)
  • Know thy deliverables
  • Start building the skeleton: use headlines and fill in the details later
  • Ask for feedback
  • Plan a feasible timeline

Helpers

  • Trello board
  • Write a blog post about the project prior to submitting the proposal
  • Ask for feedback, again!
