Hello!
This style of riding originated in England in the 18th century!
• The USHJA (United States Hunter Jumper Association) is the organization for show jumping
• Show Jumping is a competitive sport and these competitions are usually found locally and are now incorporated in the Olympic games
Show jumpers are based on which competition they're in.
• In a six bar show jumping completion you're judged on if you knock any bars off
Becoming a professional show jumper may be very hard, but it can also be a fun hobby!
• You must be willing to do everything
• Try riding several types of horses, you'll learn from each of them
• Take lots of lessons, learning is a big part of this sport
• Large amounts of discipline have to be learned when show jumping
continued...
• Ask lots of questions!
• You'll never stop learning so long as you stick with it
• If you want to get serious with show jumping, and not just for a hobby, getting a training regiment scheme is a very good place to start
Theres tons of horses that can compete in show jumping, but the most common equine used is the Hanoverian Warmblood.
Also used:
• Irish Draught
• Holsteiner
• Dutch Warmblood
The kind of tack required for show jumping is:
For horse:
• A saddle must be worn
• Bridle
• Reins
• English snaffle
• Double Bridle Bits
Tack required for rider:
• English Coat
• Conservative wash jackets
• Breeches or Hunt Jodhpurs
• Hunting cap
• Hunt derby
• Sock tie or choker
How to train for show jumping:
• Start small with ground poles
• walk your horse over it until they don't hesitate to walk over it
• Next try trotting poles
• make sure your horse is learning how to pick their feet up
• Cross rail jump
• Place one of these in with some trotting poles, be careful when they jump; some horses take a really big leap the first coupe times so be sure tohold on
• Gymnastic grinds
• This exercise will help with your horse's form when jumping
continued...
• Lastly you want to take everything you and your horse has learned and make a course with all of the equipment you have, just add more jumps and take away trotting poles; once your horse has a feel for jumping and knows where their feet should be placed that is. Be sure to halt your horse if they try to rush to the next jump. Don't be afraid to take your time, practice makes perfect.
