Look back, look ahead

New and improved Git etc.

  • Problem:
    • Our treatment of command line, Git, GitHub was short on story and mental model.
    • And just short.
    • Last piece of unrevised content
  • Solution: git-cmd-001
    • More detailed instructions on installing/configuring
    • Much clearer exposition of mental model and use cases for Git/GitHub
    • Discuss pull requests and feature branches

The curriculum

Improved WEB-DEV-001

  • Problem:
    • State management idea too hard too frustrating for students
    • Students finishing the curriculum to quickly (NB: that's a good problem!)
    • Beginners find it hard to know how to move from app idea to executing.
  • Solution:
    • Move first half of jQuery into WEB-DEV-001
    • Tell story of how to write functional, single responsibility code, vs. spaghetti
    • Curriculum

Welcome Thinkful-Ed/curricula

  • Problem:
    • How to understand bugs, feature requests for a bunch of curricula and have centralized transparent discussions about them?
  • Solution:
    • Thinkful-Ed/curricula
    • Modeled after Thinkful/Thinkful
    • The repo
  • Everything and the kitchen sink approach as first pass (Google doc)
  • Ed-team wide goals to make decisions about what to prioritize:
    • We produce opinionated yet flexible product engineers who deliver real business value.

  • Assessments looking like they'll play a big role.
