Digipak Analysis #1
By: Muhammad Faraz Malik
This is the front cover for Christina Aguilera's album "Lotus". Christina has made a Voyeuristic approach and she looks somewhat like a mermaid (Intertextuality) . The picture is very low-key and the colours are very holy like.
The front is very plain and simple, but the picture itself makes you want to buy the album. Christina is looking directly in the camera (Breaking the fourth wall) and hence, giving the audience the feeling of a connection with the artist.
The audiences impression about the album is based on the front cover of the digipak. The front only comprises of the main picture, the artist's name and the album name and it hence makes the audience curious about the rest of the digipak. The font is very basic, yet it stands out.
The use of symbolism has been applied here. The flower lotus represents spiritual growth and the ability to rise above obstacles. Just the flower itself speaks for the album. The CD too gives off a holy and mystical vibe.
The album name is written in a very unique and stylish way on the CD in a pink colour which seems to be standing out
Since the CD was simple and plain, Christina's picture is printed on the CD holder which has made the Digipak quite interesting. Even though the CD is giving a pure vibe , Christina's makeup (Smokey-eyes) and expressions still tell us that her album like her is going to be fierce and bold.
Throughout the album, Christina has used a voyeuristic approach. Even though the lotus flower represents Spirituality and the entire color scheme has given a holy vibe, Christina has used her body image to sell her album.
At the back of her digipak, a silhouette effect has been added which creates curiosity and suspicion. Christina's body is curved and the soundtrack is moving along with the curves of her body.
The back of the digipak seems washed out and the audience would want to buy this digipak to find out more about the album. Last, but not the least, a basic vertical barcode can be seen.
