What does Representation Mean?

Representation is the way that people or ideas are presented. For example the representation of music can be shown in a music video. 

In music videos there are many different representations you commonly find. For example one representation would be in a country music video, they could be wearing country clothing such as a hat and boots. Another example could be in a jazz music video, you would expect it to be a very slow music video with not much going on to fit to that kind of music. A last example would be in rap videos, the men would be seen to have power over everyone and they would be wearing gold chains around their neck. An example of this would be in Kanye West's music video called Power.

The song Power by Kanye West has some hegemonic ideologies. For example in the video, Kanye West is a king and everyone looks to be bowing down to him in the music video. This would go along with hegemonic ideologies with the gender representation because stereotypically, it is usually men who have all the power around the world.

In our music video we are creating a representation of gender and age mostly. This is because it is about a teenager/young adult getting ready to go on a date and he keeps making mistakes along the way there and this representation of age and this would work because young people tend to make more mistakes when they are nervous and a scenario such as getting ready for a date has this effect.
