Before our class gets started, I wanted to introduce myself.

Hi!

I am Wendy Schulz and I will be leading this class on Moms + Teens. This is one of my favorite topics! Helping moms support their teens' emotional and physical wellbeing naturally gets me so excited!

I am mom to two teenage daughters who are 16 and 13, so everything I share is the real life strategies we use in our own home. I am so grateful to have Young Living in our wellness arsenal during the teenage years. Between sports, school, hormones and life changes the teenage years are complex ... but they are amazing years as well!

We tackle everything from acne to sore muscles to immune support to BIG emotions with YL oils!

Post 1:

Tonight we will be taking a look at ways to support your teen's emotional and physical wellbeing. Today's teen is under more stress and pressure than ever before.

We will walk through ways to utilize essential oils to support your teen as they navigate school, relationships, hurt and stress.... and with school back in full swing, every teen needs wellness support to help stay healthy this year.

Post 2:

We started off tonight's class by sharing positive things about our teens because sometimes it is easy to be focused in on the hard spots of the teenage years. Parenting teens is no joke at times... can I get an Amen to that!!

There is an old adage that says Moms set the emotional thermostat of the home. While that may feel more difficult to do as a mom of teenagers, it is none the less true.

I am so grateful to have essential oils in my parenting toolbox for those high emotion days. Raising a family in a peaceful and happy home is extremely important to me. Our teens are surrounded by negative messages, stress, and pressures that we could never have even imagine at their age. I want home to be a peaceful and restful escape from that high pressure world.

Here is where essential oils come to my aid!

I call it "STEALTH DIFFUSING!"

😎

On a daily basis our little kitchen diffuser pumps out peaceful aromas and therapeutic benefits for my girls. Here are some of our favorite oils for increasing the PEACE and decreasing the STRESS:

✌️Orange
✌️Tangerine
✌️Peace and Calming
✌️Valor
✌️Frankincense
✌️Northern Lights Black Spruce
✌️Joy
✌️Lavender
✌️Christmas Spirit

Mornings set the tone for the day. Let's talk about the positive ways to infuse some pep, self-care and wellness into your teen's morning.

Pep: Studies show that the teenage brain and mornings do not mix well. Unfortunately most teens have early morning school routines. You can help infuse some pep into the morning by diffusing a combination of peppermint and citrus such as Citrus Fresh, Tangerine, or Orange. You can get this blend going in your teen's bathroom or in the kitchen. We use 4 drops of each in larger rooms like the kitchen and two drops of each in smaller spaces such as the bathroom.

Self-Care: A wonderful tool to give your teen is the value of self-care. A little self-care can help start the day off on a happier note. Morning bathroom routines provide plenty of opportunity to help your teen develop a few self-care steps that they enjoy. Some of our favorites include:

Shower Mist Spray: Turn your morning shower into a mini spa experience by spritzing the shower walls with a DIY Shower Mist Spray. In an 8 ounce spray bottle combine any of the following combinations with water. Shake before using.

10 drops Orange + 10 drops Eucalyptus
5 drops Lemon + 10 drops Purification
10 drops Thieves + 10 drops Citrus Fresh
10 drops Peppermint + 10 drops Rosemary

YL Skin Care including the ART System for gals or Shutran Shaving Cream and Aftershave for guys.. and Charcoal bar soap for everyone!

Wellness Support: Boost your teens' wellness with a morning serving of Ningxia Red. Our girls enjoy mixing 2 ounces NR with a few ounces of orange juice or adding a drop of any citrus oil to a "NR shot"

With a little pep in their step, some self-care, and a boost of antioxidants your teen (and you) are ready to start the day!

The teenage years are full of new and surging hormones, big feelings, new experiences (hello dating) and pressures.

Here are some tips and strategies for navigating emotions. One of the best things we can do is teach our teens how to identify their emotions, and find healthy coping strategies.

Since life does not happen only at home - or near mom's oil stash - arming your teens with some on-the-go oil support is a great way to help them as they go about their day.

Consider making or purchasing roller bottles for easy use. Each of our daughters keep their favorite oil rollers in their purses/backpacks.

Our favorite emotional support oils and uses:

-Apply 2 drops of Joy over the heart to uplift
-Diffuse 5-8 drops of Peace and Calming to reduce tension
-Apply Stress Away to the inside of the wrist or back of neck before tests or during stressful classes
-Apply 2-3 drops of White Angelica over the shoulders and brow to inspire positive thoughts

And for those teenage ladies in the house... please go right now and order them Dragon Time.... when PMS emotions hit apply this oil everywhere - spray it on them in their sleep... drop it on their head when they are not looking.... 😂🤣😂

I wish I could say I am kidding.... girl mommas just trust me. BUY THIS OIL... SAVE YOURSELF! (In truth your teens will pick up pretty quickly that this oil WORKS! Apply to lower abdomen for cramps)

Supporting the immune system for teens is especially crucial as their bodies are still growing and developing. With fall here and winter right around the corner, now is a great time to establish immune supporting routines. Here are four easy to implement ideas for your teen.

1. Add one drop of Thieves Vitality or Frankincense Vitality to your morning "Ningxia Red Shot"

2. Use Thieves Hand Purifier throughout the day in place of chemical hand sanitizers. THP has been shown to kill 99.8% of bacteria. It does not contain alcohol which can dry the skin or chemicals that can damage and kill healthy stomach bacteria.

3. Make an immune supporting roller for your teen to apply to the bottoms of their feet before bed. Our favorite is 10 drops Thieves, 5 drops Lemon, 5 drops Oregano and 5 drops Frankincense combined with grapeseed oil as a carrier oil. Roller bottles in a variety of colors can be purchased on Amazon for $1-$2 each in sets of 6 or more. We keep an immune support roller on each person in our family's nightstand for easy use.

4. ImmuPro is great for both supporting a healthy immune system and helping your teen get a good night’s sleep. This chewable supplement is effective for occasional use and is packed full of goodies such as wolfberries and melatonin.

When it's time to GET TO WORK sometimes our teens need a little focus. Essential oils can be a great support for chasing away the squirrels and getting school work done.

Remember to Remember: Did you know that studies have shown that when Rosemary essential oil is inhaled while studying, students are more likely to recall that information at a later date? Schools in China have implemented diffusing and inhaling rosemary essential oil to help students improve test scores.

Don't Chase the Squirrels: Yep, that's the actual label I have on this power combination! Combine equal parts Vetiver, Cedarwood and Lavender in a roller bottle with your carrier oil of choice. Apply to the brain stem area to increase focus.

* Pro Mom Tip: If you have not used Vetiver before, it is a very thick sap-like oil. You may need to lightly warm the bottle to get it to come out.

Focus In Foggy Brain: Peppermint is our go to oil for "awaking" foggy brains and sleepy teens. Have your teen apply 1-2 drops of Peppermint oil in the palm of their hands, rub hands together to warm the oil, apply hands over the nose and mouth forming a "cup."

Take 5-10 deep slow breathes. This technique is called cupping and is a very effective way to inhale essential oils at home or on the go. Pack a 5 ml Peppermint in your teens backpack so they can use this technique when afternoon slump hits or before a big test.

Post 7

With busy schedules of school, work, sports, clubs and more, it is so important to plan for family down time. Time together to reconnect, share what is going on, and build lasting positive memories. Our family loves to play cards or board games together or pile on the couch for a family movie.

A wonderful diffuser blend for downtime is Stress Away and Lime. The fresh and relaxing blend will encourage all the members of your family to unwind and reconnect.

Post 8:

Our teen's confidence can take a beating from dealing with the natural changes the teenage years bring to their bodies and skin. Hormone changes can bring about oily skin and acne issues. Before your teen reaches for mainstream toxic solutions, help them develop a daily skin routine with natural non-toxic Young Living Products.

Recently released Orange Blossom Face Wash, Orange Blossom Moisturizer, Charcoal bar soap and Maximum Strength Acne treatment provide powerful natural help.

Here is one sample daily routine:

AM: Wash face with Orange Blossom Face Wash, apply Acne Treatment to trouble spots, and finish with a light application of Orange Blossom moisturizer if needed.

PM: Use the Charcoal bar soap in the shower on the face and any areas of body acne (shoulders, back or chest for example). Apply Acne Treatment as needed and moisturize.

Several essential oils can be used on problem areas or acne scaring as well. These include Lemon, Purification or Tea Tree for acne and Frankincense or Manuka for scaring.

Post 9:

The topic of bedtime routines and healthy sleep habits was super big when our teens were babies and toddlers - but sleep is just as important now! Let's take a little time to talk about working with your teen to establish a healthy bedtime routine.

The days of scheduled-by-mom bath time and bedtime are long gone for most of us, and that is good. Our teens are just a few short years away from living on their own, so it is vital they learn how and why to develop and monitor their own bedtime routine.

In starting the conversation some good questions to ask are:

Do you feel like you are getting enough sleep?

Do you stay asleep all night?

Do you often feel tired during the day?

Is it hard or easy to get to sleep?

Take time to listen to their answers and think through together what is working or not working for them.

As you work together to establish a bedtime routine here are some elements you may want to keep in mind:

1. Keep it simple and repeatable.
2. Get screens turned off 60-90 min before "sleep time."
3. Find strategies to settle the mind.

Young Living products can support your teen's desired bedtime routine. Here are a few suggestions.

1. Enjoy a bath with Lavender bath bombs
2. Rub down sore muscles with Relaxation massage oil.
3. Diffuse a favorite combination of oils.
4. Spritz linens with lavender
5. Use Tranquil roller along inner wrists and back of neck.
6. Apply two drops of Frankincense to the crown of the head.

Post 10:

Hey mommas - I see you! You are doing an awesome job! Just look at you taking an essential oil class for your teen. Come on - that's amazing!

So let's take a few minutes to talk about Mom Care. It's a thing - or it SHOULD be! Here are some of my favorite ways to take care of myself:

-Unwind with a warm bath using a Young Living bath bomb in Lavender or Stress Away.

-Refresh with a facial oil such as Mirah face oil or Dry Skin Serum applied over your face and neck before bed.

-Rejuvenate with amazing supplements such as Master Formula, Sulfurzyme and Ningxia Red

-And just for fun .. some times momma needs some new Savvy Make up!
