Hey Friends! I’m so excited you’re here for the Moms + Toddlers class!

My name is Trisha and I am a mom to four kids with my littlest currently entering toddlerhood. 😜 I am a homeschool mom, natural remedy seeker, love traveling, camping, sipping on tea and lattes, and watching beautiful sunsets.

I am so excited to share tips and tricks that have been so helpful during the toddler season. I started using YL nearly 11 years ago when my oldest was a toddler in desperate need of immune support, but I quickly found these little bottles of oils were going to bless us in so many other ways. They are now our first line of defense for all the things.

Usage and Safety

The number one question I always receive when using oils with my babies and toddlers is wondering what dilution they should use. This is a great graphic that breaks down how to dilute the oils we will be talking about in this class. So save this graphic and keep it handy.

Pro tip: On each YL oil bottle label it shares the recommended dilution, but for young kids diluting just a little bit more like the graphic states is a great place to start. When you dilute oils it doesn't make them work any less it just makes them work at a slower timed release rate which is perfect for kids.

As always, when using essential oils on adults or children, you never want to put them directly into the eyes or ears. You also want to be aware of any blends that may contain citrus oils as these are photosensitive and should be avoided if being exposed to direct sunlight.

The oils from the KidScents line come pre-diluted to make application easy, taking the guesswork out of diluting it yourself. The recommended application is for children ages 2-12 but I’ve known many mothers to use them on children younger than that. Remember, you know your child the best. Use your best judgement and see what works for them. Start ‘low and slow’ - apply to the feet, using just a drop or two and go from there.

These oils can also be diffused! Start with just 3-4 drops and adjust as you see fit.

Each stage of a child’s life present their own unique challenges. Some of the challenges we face with parenting toddlers is that they are driven to assert themselves, to communicate their likes and dislikes, and to act independently. Toddlers are also developing the language skills that help them express their ideas, wants, and needs. At the same time, toddlers do not understand logic and still have a hard time with waiting and self-control. In a nutshell: Two-year-olds want what they want when they want it. This is why you may be hearing things like “no” and “me do it” and “no diaper change!” more than ever before. 🤪

The good news is essential oils and oil infused products can help you navigate this season and can help toddlers deal with all the new things life brings their way.

My top four must have oils with toddlers I always have on hand are Peace and Calming, Lavender, Valor, and Frankincense. We diffuse or roll these oils on the bottom of their little feet every day.

Peace and Calming -just as the name says it brings peace and calm over you and your toddler in all situations.

Lavender -a relaxing and calming oil that helps support and balance emotions

Valor - balancing, courage, and calming fears

Frankincense - wonderful for emotional and immune support

Taming Tantrums
The combination of toddlers developing their personalities and being able to vocalize their frustrations, all mixed in with learning their emotions, can come to a head in the form of a tantrum. Anyone else have a toddler throw a royal tantrum in the middle of a public place? 🙋🏼‍♀️🙈

Good news is you aren’t alone. It happens to us all. During these moments I don't know about you, but I need all the oils just as much as the toddler I am carrying screaming out the store. 😂

My biggest tip and what has helped the most is being diligent to use oils daily to help balance emotions before things go into full tantrum mode. I have found our best days are when we diffuse and apply oils first thing in the morning, throughout our day, and as a calming bedtime routine. Only using oils when tantrums come can be helpful, but the key is to use them everyday to continually balance emotions.

For us Peace & Calming and Lavender have been great options to help diffuse a tantrum.

BUT, because everyone’s body chemistry is different, some oils work better for some people than others do. So if you try one and it doesn’t work grab another one until you find that magic oil or blend that brings peace and calm to the tantrums. 🙌🏼💛

Playtime
Playtime helps toddlers develop their motor skills and is a good way to get out their energy. A fun activity we love using with toddlers is Essential oils in playdough. It can be a great way to help calm a toddler.

Here is our favorite DIY essential oil playdough recipe

2 cups all purpose flour
1/2 cup salt
2 tablespoons cream of tartar
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
10-12 drops essential oil (more or less may be needed depending on the oil you choose)
1.5 cups boiling water
food coloring - optional

Mix the flour, salt, and cream of tarter together in a large bowl.
Combine your essential oil with the vegetable oil and mix into the dry ingredients.
Boil the water and add food coloring directly to water.
Pour 1 cup of your boiling water into the mixture and stir, adding the additional 1/2 cup slowly until desired consistency is reached.
Knead for 3-5 minutes or until dough is smooth and perfectly squishy for play.

If simple is your thing you can also knead oils into the playdough of your choice.

Our favorite oils to put in play dough are Peace & Calming, Lavender, Citrus Fresh, or Orange.

Diffusing during playtime can also help keep the toddler and mom’s moods even and uplifted. Citrus Fresh is an amazing oil we love to diffuse.

Naptime
Naptime can sometimes be a struggle, especially getting your toddler calmed down. Having a naptime routine with oils can eventually turn into something that toddlers anticipate and fully cooperate with. Rubbing Lavender and Frankincense on their feet or making a Lavender Linen Spray for their sheets and pillows can be very helpful. Even a stuffed animal that has a place to put a calming oil for them to snuggle with can be the key to getting them to take a nap.

My favorite nap time diffuser recipes are:

Sleep Sweet
3 peace and calming
2 lavender

Calm baby
3 lavender
3 bergamot
2 geranium

Lullaby
4 Frankincense
2 Cedarwood
1 Ylang Ylang

Welcome Home
4 Gentle Baby
1 lemon

Have you tried the Seedlings Linen Spray? It smells so lovely. This essential oil linen spray uses Lavender, Bergamot, and Ylang Ylang to create a soothing, relaxing atmosphere. Plus, its naturally derived, alcohol-free formula makes it the best linen spray to use around infants, toddlers, and breastfeeding moms.

Use this linen spray for sheets, blankets, car seats, clothing, and stuffed animals to create a calming, soothing environment that is perfect for sleeping, swaddling, playing, or rocking. Its convenient spray bottle makes it easy to carry in your diaper bag or keep in the nursery. Use the comforting aroma as part of baby’s nap or bedtime routine and spray on bedding to create a soothing environment the whole night through.

As a mom utilizing the time a toddler is asleep can be crucial to getting things done, can I get an amen? Motivation oil can help you get things done while your toddler is asleep. I have found it to be so helpful. Or maybe you may want to diffuse lavender or dream catcher for yourself to get a quick nap in as well.

Bellyaches
Upset tummies can turn a good day into a bad day very quickly so we have to be armed. KidScents oils are a must for toddlerhood. They are pre-diluted, and ready to apply.

TummyGize is a blend perfect for little tummies that aren’t feeling so well. It contains seven oils that are specifically formulated and blended to soothe and relax.

If your toddler has a nervous tummy pop a Young Living roller fitment on top and they can even roll it on their own tummy. I keep a bottle in my oil bag in the car too! You never know when anyone is going to eat something that doesn't agree with them!

Here are the oils in TummyGize:

Spearmint - gentler than peppermint and enhances relaxation
Peppermint - supportive and soothing
Tangerine - rich in limonene (Google the benefits)
Fennel - used as a digestive aid for thousands of years and mentioned in one of the oldest known medical records, the Ebers Papyrus
Ginger - soothes, comforts, and balances
Cardamom - protects the stomach
Anise - a key ingredient in the Essentialzymes supplement

Usage:
Add an AromaGlide™ roller fitment to the top for easy roll-on application. If you don't have a roller top that's ok! Just add a drop onto the belly button and rub around.
Apply in a clockwise motion to follow the normal digestion pattern every 30 minutes for an hour and as needed thereafter.

No tummy is perfect without a probiotic!
The KidScents MightyPro pairs perfectly with TummyGize for added digestive support. It contains both pre- and probiotics. Prebiotics and probiotics help support digestion, the immune system, and emotional balance. They do this by stimulating and replenishing “good bacteria” through the live cultures. MightyPro has 8 billion active, live cultures!

My kids love MightyPro. They love the taste and I love that it has definitely improved their immune system and a lot of tummy issues! We hoard this stuff and will never go without it!

You can sprinkle it on cold food and drinks for easy consumption. It also tastes great on its own . . . think healthy Pixie Stick! Your kids will love it!

I also love that they are in individual packets and it doesn't need to be refrigerated.

Bumps & Bruises
Toddlers are very active and are still developing their motor skills, so naturally there will be many bumps and bruises along the way. My little Easton has already fallen on the steps and his tooth went through his bottom lip and the other day fell off a top bunk. 🙈🤦🏼‍♀️ Anyone else relate?

The KidScents oils are designed specifically for children and the Owie blend is our go to. We put a roller on top and roll it over all the scrapes and bruises. The name pretty much says it all, but it involves way more than you are probably thinking. You can grab this oil when your little one has some skin that needs soothing. You can even grab this oil to help ease emotional and mental hurt and stress... an area we may tend to overlook.

This is another oil we carry on the go with us. There are so many times at home and on the go at the park, play dates, that we reach for this oil. It's very soothing and always makes the boo boos better.

Children have to work through some of the same feelings and emotions as adults do, but at times it can be harder for them to process. Oils have a powerful impact on the emotional center of the brain and can be a great tool when helping your little ones deal with emotional trauma of their own.

Oils in Owie

Idaho Balsam Fir - soothing and rejuvenating to the body and mind
Tea Tree - cleansing and supports healthy skin
Helichrysum - known for its restorative properties
Elemi - in the same botanical family as Frankincense and Myrrh (great for skin)
Cistus - honey-like scent, used for stress and trauma
Hinoki - energizing and uplifting to the mind
Clove - supports overall wellness, main ingredient in Thieves

You can witness in this blend how intentional Gary was in choosing oils that are useful for our physical body along with our emotional minds to benefit the body as a whole.

Usage:
Apply Owie topically to improve the appearance of your child’s skin. Start with just a drop and adjust accordingly.

Lavaderm spray is also amazing. It is easy to grab and spray on any boo boo.

Lavender is the Swiss Army knife. If you don’t know what to grab always go for Lavender. It can be used on both toddlers and moms.

Snuggle Time

Even though there are frustrating times when raising a toddler, they still enjoy snuggling, and that’s a welcome bright spot in any day. Harmony, or Joy and Orange are some good options for the diffuser during snuggle time and are always uplifting.

Gathering and Oola Family are also nice oils to diffuse or put on for snuggle time.

I also always enjoy putting Lavender on my neck or a diffuser necklace to help provide a comforting, calming aroma near my toddler as we snuggle.

Under the Weather
Nobody is happy when they’re under the weather, and that truth is amplified when a toddler is in the mix.

For moms, Thieves Vitality or Inner Defense helps support the immune system so you can be well to take care of your toddler.

Thieves rolled on the bottom of moms and toddlers feet every night before bed is a great way for daily support immune systems. This is something I have done for my kids since they were one year old and has been an amazing support during fall and winter.

If your toddler is old enough for a chewable tablet Vitamin C is an amazing addition to a winter routine for all the antioxidants.

We already talked about it, but mighty pro probiotics are a must for immune system support for a heathy gut. Always have this one hand to support a strong immune system.

One of the most common ailments for toddlers to deal with is the sniffles. SniffleEase blend is amazingly effective! It is rejuvenating, refreshing, and perfect for little lungs. Actually our whole family loves SniffleEase! It helps keep the sniffles at bay and clears our stuffy noses. These KidScents oils aren't just for kids!

Let's break down why we love it.

Eucalyptus Blue - unique Eucalyptus oil grown in Ecuador
Palo Santo - known as the poor man’s Frankincense
Lavender - balancing and calming
Dorado Azul - recognized only as a weed in Ecuador until Gary Young analyzed it for the first time and gave it an identity
Ravintsara - has purifying properties that are a cross between nutmeg and clove
Myrtle - balancing and soothing
Eucalyptus Globulus - also found in Breathe Again and can be soothing to muscles
Marjoram - known as the ‘herb of happiness’
Pine - shares similar properties with Eucalyptus Globulus and their actions are enhanced when combined
Eucalyptus Citriodora - traditionally used as a perfume in linen closets
Cypress - this oil gets things moving!
Eucalyptus Radiata - cleansing and purifying
Black Spruce - releasing and grounding properties
Peppermint - not just good for the belly, opens up the airways too

The four different varieties of Eucalyptus in the blend make it a powerhouse oil.

Usage:
Add an AromaGlide™ roller fitment to the top for easy roll-on application. Don't have a roller fitment? No problem! Just add a drop to the chest, back, or feet and rub in!
Roll on the spine, bottoms of feet, and chest every few hours and as needed.

Toddler Bathtime
A bathtime routine is almost as important to a child’s health (and mom’s sanity) as a good bedtime routine, and the two normally coincide.

The KidScents line has everything needed for a successful and healthy bathtime routine - Bath Gel, Shampoo, Lotion, and Toothpaste. Our skin is our largest organ and soaks up anything we put on it, so it is vital to make sure what we use is safe.

The Kidscents products are a simple way to swap out from traditional toxin-laden products. KidScents Shampoo contains no synthetic perfumes, colors, or toxic ingredients. The natural components in this shampoo-aloe, MSM, Chamomile, and Tangerine and Lemon essential oils-effectively and gently cleanse without causing irritation. KidScents Bath Gel is a safe, gentle soap that cleanses and protects sensitive skin. Formulated with MSM, aloe vera, antioxidants, and pure Lemon, Cedarwood, and other essential oils, this liquid soap is pH balanced for children’s skin.

After getting out of the bath we also love using the Seedlings Baby Lotion. It smells lovely and is such a peace of mind knowing it is safe for their little skin.

Bedtime
Sticking to a bedtime routine and making sure a toddler gets the sleep they need is really important, especially since their minds and bodies are still developing.

The YL diffusers are amazing and they are appealing to have in a child’s room at night. I love the light settings on Dew Drop or the Desert Mist and that they run 6-8 hours. My current favorite diffuser for toddlers is the new owl one that just came out. It is perfect for using at bedtime with night light.

Dream Catcher oil is a must have for toddlers who are having night terrors or bad dreams. Apply it to the bottom of their feet and on back of neck before bed.

SleepyIze is perfect for calming and relaxing the mind and body before bedtime (or naptime).

Here are all the wonderful oils in Sleepyize.
Lavender - relaxing, harmonizing, balancing
Geranium - excellent for the skin, but also fosters peace, well-being, and hope
Roman Chamomile - calming, soothing, and perfect for adults, children, and pets
Tangerine - helps to maintain a healthy lifestyle
Bergamot - relaxing to the mind and body
Sacred Frankincense - mood-elevating and relaxing
Valerian - promotes feelings of relaxation and eases occasional restlessness
Ruta (Rue) - sleep-inducing properties

Are you starting to get an idea of the attention to detail that Gary Young displays as you learn about the properties of the different oils that make up these blends? He was meticulous. He did his research and selected just the right oils that when all perfectly paired together would create a blend that was pure magic.

Trust me . . . when you experience the power of these oils for yourself, you will make sure you never run out!

SleepyIze Usage:
Add an AromaGlide™ roller fitment to the top for easy roll-on application. Don't have a roller fitment? No problem! Just add a drop to the chest, back, or feet and rub in!
Roll on the spine, bottoms of feet, and chest before bedtime or naptime.
Remember - these oils can be diffused too! Start with just a few drops and adjust as you see fit.

For mom, Lavender, Cedarwood, and Valerian in the diffuser can be helpful for a good night’s sleep. I love putting a few drops of each. The sleep essence or Immupro supplement are also amazing for supporting sleep.

I also love misting the sheets with the linen spray right before getting in bed for a relaxing atmosphere.

Mommy Time

Once the toddler is down for the night, or if Grandma and Grandpa have them, it’s important to take care of yourself.

My favorite way for a relaxing break is using the Lavender or Stress Away calming bath bombs. Young Living has used two of their most popular calming essential oils to create these relaxing bath bombs and filled them with nourishing ingredients and no unwanted additives.

Lavender essential oil—renowned for its soothing and calming aroma—makes the Lavender Calming Bath Bomb perfect for unwinding after a long day, while the Stress Relaxing Bath Bomb is a special treat thanks to the inviting, vanilla-lime scent of Stress Away oil.

The new Shower Steamers are also nice, especially when you don't have the time for a bath.

It is a crazy exciting journey of raising a toddler and I hope throughout this class you have seen the many ways it can be enhanced with the support of essential oils and oil infused products.
