I’m so excited to join you and talk all about oils & pregnancy!

My name is Emily! I’m married to a handsome man named Landon, and we have 2 adorable little boys. Asa is almost 3, and Aidan’s 1st birthday is TOMORROW! How do they grow up so fast?!

Both my husband and I are American, but we live in Manchester, England as my husband works with a church here. I love a good dance party and can do the worm (the dance move - but obviously not when I’m pregnant). When I find a good fiction book, I don’t want to set it down. I’m a fan of history podcasts and Brene Brown audiobooks. I spent several months after I first bought Young Living oils as a skeptic who read a lot about ingestion and quality and using oils with babies and during pregnancy.

I LOVE talking about oils & pregnancy because it was during my pregnancy that I first learned about oils. After my midwife mentioned them casually, I stopped by Walmart one day, picked up lavender to use postpartum and peppermint to use when I was feeling a bit ill. I knew NOTHING about quality or safety.

When my first baby was 4 months old, I started using Young Living essential oils and learned about the importance of quality. By my 2nd pregnancy, I used essential oils consistently, having grown in my confidence to use oils with my family. I’m so excited to share some amazing guidelines and products with you to help you (or someone you know) as you go through the crazy adventure of nurturing a little one & welcoming that sweet babe into the world!

During this class, we will talk about a number of things:
+ essential oil quality
+ safety guidelines for pregnancy
+ oils to use in moderation & oils you can use confidently
+ stress and emotions
+ sleep
+ skin
+ mood
+ products for your new babe

Using Oils While Pregnant - Quality

One of my biggest questions about using oils while pregnant was “is it safe?”

But before we talk about safety, it is important that we talk quality.

My first oils - lavender and peppermint - came from Walmart. They maybe cost $6 total. Looking back, I cringe that I used that lavender in a peri-bottle postpartum and sprayed it all over my bum.

Mamas, you want the best for yourself and your growing babe. Look into the brand you are buying. Trust the company. I put in time reading about brands and came to trust Young Living as my oil brand after comparing a few companies.

So many other oils out there have labels that say “do not ingest.” So if we can ingest plants but not the essential oil from the bottle, it makes me wonder what may actually be in that bottle (synthetics, fragrance oils, other chemicals). We have a line of oils labeled for ingestion. And guess what? The oils in those vitality bottles are the EXACT SAME oil as is in the regular YL bottles! If you are skeptical of ingestion, like I was in the beginning, I highly recommend Jen O’Sullivan’s book “French Aromatherapy.”

Young Living’s Seed to Seal guarantee is truly a gift to all those mamas and soon-to-be moms out there looking for a trustworthy brand that they can use on their growing bodies and their sweet babies. When you are using oils without additives and synthetics, you can use them confidently to ease some of those pregnancy woes.

Using Oils While Pregnant - Safety

Let’s talk a bit about safety. I will warn you this this section is going to be long because it was what I desperately wanted to know when I was researching safety and pregnancy. When I was first exploring how to use essential oils with kids and during pregnancy, I wanted things to be very black and white. I wanted to know if I absolutely could or couldn’t use something, but I was finding a lot of lists that WERE NOT THE SAME. So how was I to know what I could and couldn’t use?

During both my pregnancies, I worked with practitioners who didn’t have much knowledge about essential oils. I am not a doctor, midwife, or doula, so I recommend you consult your doctor or midwife about using oils during pregnancy. Just be aware that they may not know much about essential oils, or they may not have done much reading up on it. If you really want to use oils throughout your pregnancy and postpartum and your doctor or midwife recommends against them, I encourage you to be open to other providers who may be able to better educate and assist you. Plus, I highly recommend resources such as “Betsy Bosom’s Baby Book” and “Gentle Babies” by Debra Rayburn.

If you have already been using oils, you can pretty confidently continue using oils while you are pregnant. If you would feel more comfortable diluting your essential oils with a little more carrier oil (coconut oil, V-6, jojoba, sweet almond oil, etc.), you absolutely can! Dilution helps extend an essential oil (saving you money!), and it gives the essential oil molecules a fatty oil to cling to, slowing the evaporation of an essential oils from the skin and allowing your body to absorb more of that oil since it stays on the skin longer.

If you are new to essential oils and have just started or are about to start using them, you can use them confidently, too! Just START LOW and GO SLOW.

Just use 2-3 drops in your diffuser to start. Dilute oils. Use common sense: if an oil doesn’t feel right, taste right, or smell right to you, just don’t use it. We already know that our pregnant bodies are sensitive to smells, sometimes ones we even found pleasant before pregnancy. Be gentle to your body, but know that essential oils can be a part of that tender care.

And just a disclaimer: Many studies you may come across on PubMed or Google Scholar that have to do with essential oils and pregnancy are studies involving rats and not humans. The FDA deems it unethical to perform essential oil studies on pregnant women. However, there are plenty of women and babies who turned out alright by listening to their gut and using oils as needed.

Here are a few Young Living oils (plus a clarification on Blue Tansy) that you should be aware of. These oils can still be used during pregnancy, but they are often the ones you will hear about. I want you to be informed, not afraid. Once you know, make your own decisions on what you are confident using. There are SO many options, it isn’t too hard to avoid or limit these.

Young Living oils to avoid/limit during pregnancy and why:

+ Hyssop: Hyssop contains Pinocamphone. While Pinocamphone opens up the respiratory system, it can be toxic in high doses. HOWEVER, a high dose would be a person who weighs 150 pounds using between 9 ml and 78 ml at one time (Bosom 30). So if you are diffusing or diluting a blend that has a little bit of hyssop, you should be just fine. You can also opt for gentler oils to replace hyssop during pregnancy if you are more comfortable with that.

+ Sage, Clary Sage, Sage Lavender, Fennel, and some oil blends such as Lady Sclareol, Sclaressence, and Dragon Time: These may positively affect estradiol levels and provide hormone support but are not generally recommended during pregnancy. These are great for supporting healthy hormones and your body’s cycle, but may cause hormone levels to rise during pregnancy when your hormones are already changing so much. To be on the safe side, I recommend against using those hormone support oils when there are so may other oils you can use.

+ Wintergreen: Wintergreen is high in methyl salicylate. Methyl salicylate acts similarly to aspirin, and it may inhibit blood clotting. Full disclosure: I used a little bit of diluted PanAway, which contains Wintergreen, on my head and neck and on my feet during pregnancy. If you have already been using a blend that contains Wintergreen, don’t be afraid! Just be aware of the plants action, and dilute accordingly.

+ Idaho Tansy (not Blue Tansy): Idaho Tansy (not carried by Young Living) is an abortifacient, and it may cause damage to a growing baby. HOWEVER, I have listed it here to clarify that Idaho Tansy is NOT the same plant as Blue Tansy. You can still use Blue Tansy during pregnancy.

A Deeper Dive into Safety

So we talked about oils to avoid use of in the last post, but I want to give you some longer explanations on what to use in moderation so you can make informed decisions on what to use and when.

What should you use IN MODERATION during pregnancy?

+ Oils high in 1,8 cineol, such as Ravintsara, Eucalyptus Globulus, and Eucalyptus Radiata. These oils are GREAT for respiratory support, but they can be toxic in HIGH doses. Most people aren’t using these in high doses anyways (5+ ml), so do what feels comfortable. Use these as needed during pregnancy instead of diffusing or wearing them every single day.

+ Oils high in menthol, such as peppermint. When applied over the abdomen, peppermint might cause some discomfort to your baby. However, some midwives or doulas may use peppermint to help turn a breech baby, so keep that in mind as you get closer to delivery! I know a lot of women who like to use peppermint on diffuser jewellery or in the diffuser to ease queasy feelings, and that is perfectly fine to do!

+ Oils high in Euganol, such as Cinnamon Bark, Cassia, and Clove. These oils have great, natural oral numbing properties, but they are HOT oils. Be careful when applying to the skin, and be sure to dilute. Euganol has been shown to slow blood clotting, so there is a small concern about excess use causing bleeding - particularly in the first trimester and in the third trimester when you get closer to delivery. Using these oils - Thieves has both Cinnamon Bark and Clove - as needed can be really helpful in keeping your body above the wellness line, but I would encourage you to dilute and just be aware if your body is signaling that you might be diffusing too much.

(Oils to use in Moderation, continued)

+ Oils high in E-anethol, such as Fennel and Myrtle. This chemical constituent, as in Fennel, can be helpful for digestion. You may want to be wary of its impact on estradiol levels during pregnancy and refrain from using it regularly because it impacts hormone levels. However, it is okay to use topically or internally sparingly. Some research shows that this isolated chemical constituent inhibits the growth of fetal cells, resulting in developmental abnormalities. The big BUT is that this was when fennel oil was “tested in-vitro (in a dish) on rat embryo limb buds” DIRECTLY (Bosom 25). This study demonstrated the damage when fennel oil was applied DIRECTLY to the growing cells. However, the conclusion was that normal use does not cause birth defects in growing babies.

+ Oils high in Methyl chavicol or Carvacal, such as Basil, Tarragon, Oregano, and Mountain Savory. The ISOLATED chemical constituent has been shown to be carcinogenic (cancer causing) in LARGE amounts. However, as long as you are not drinking bottles of these essential oils, you should be alright. Using these oils in food quantities is fine, but be cautious about using these in therapeutic amounts during pregnancy. Studies on these isolated chemical constituents may flag a certain plant as something to be wary of, but the way God designed plants is INCREDIBLE. There are so often other chemical constituents within those plants that balance out the other effects. Here’s an example: Methyl chavicol (within the Estragole family) is very concentrated in Basil leaves. “However, the [WHO] World Health Organization] has declared pesto [usually made with Basil leaves] to be safe for human consumption because research has shown that anticarcinogens in Basil leaves counteract the toxic effects of the carcinogens” (Bosom 26). How cool is that?!

(Oils to use in Moderation, continued)

+ Oils with Emmenagogue properties, such as Angelica, Juniper, Myrrh, Fennel, Rosemary, and Clary Sage. An Emmenagogue is something that encourages bleeding or discharge. This can be really helpful before or after pregnancy, but avoiding or limiting use during pregnancy is generally recommended. Some of these oils, such as Clary Sage, may also encourage uterine contractions. Be aware of the possibility, but if you have even using these oils (and maybe you were using them before you were pregnant) and feel comfortable with continued use, you can. Once again, listen to your body. When in doubt, you can choose another oil or just dilute what you normally would use.

There are SO many amazing oils that you can use confidently during pregnancy. As we go on, we will talk about a variety of different oils and how you can use them while you prepare for your little one’s entrance into the world!

Before we move on, some of my FAVORITE resources on oils and pregnancy:
+ “Betsy Bosom’s Baby Book” is a great in-depth look at oils and supplements in pregnancy. Much of the information on chemical constituents comes from that book. It was a great starting place when I had questions about the science behind what made it on each list.
+ “Gentle Babies” is an experience-based approach (not super black and white), but I found it helpful in understanding how soon-to-be-moms and moms have used oils for themselves and their children.

Eliminating Excess Stress - As an expecting mom, you have a lot on your minds. Maybe it is past trauma and loss. Maybe it is finances. Maybe it is work or day care arrangements. Clothing. Emotional and physical support during pregnancy or postpartum. Birth plan. Options. Medication. Health issues. Or something I haven’t listed. I see you, mama.

Stress weighs on a soon-to-be mama (whether this is your first baby or your fifth). Research shows that short-term stress doesn’t really affect growing babies during pregnancy. However, long-term stress - when your body is in “fight or flight” mode for an extended period of time - can expose a baby in utero to higher levels of cortisol and affect the baby’s development. Because your sanity is important to your health and your baby’s health, it is valuable to take time to lower your stress levels.

So what can you do to support your body and mind when stress creeps in?

+ StressAway: Created for those moments of stress and worry. Drop 2-3 drops in your diffuser with a drop of Lavender and a drop of Frankincense. I like to roll it on my wrists or rub a drop in my palms and take 4-5 deep breaths with my hands cupped over my nose.

+ Frankincense: Literally good for everything. Place a drop on the crown of your head while you practice some deep breathing or while you pray. This is great in the diffuser but also just so good for your skin as well. (We’ll talk about that more soon.)

+ Lavender: Inhale directly and feel free to apply to the skin! Lavender is a great go-to when you feel a little frazzled.

+ Citrus: Citrus oils are SUPER affordable and very uplifting. Just we careful since citrus oils are photosensitive (meaning they can make you more likely to get a sunburn when out in the sun). I love using citrus oils on diffuser jewelry or applied in the evening. Give a citrus a try: Orange, Lemon, Lime, Tangerine, Bergamot, or Citrus Fresh. My favorite is Bergamot, which is also a good choice when dealing with feelings of grief.

+ Anything you use that helps you de-stress: whatever makes you feel less stressed, use it! You may not connect with any of these oils, but you might really love the refreshing smell of one thing else - use that!

Calming Down - Okay, so you’ve incorporated stress-relieving oils into your day, but you just feel ALL THE EMOTIONS sometimes. This is completely normal. It is normal to have feelings of anxiousness and feel highly emotional. Your body is growing a human being!

I’ve been dealing with anxiety and panic attacks, so I am right there with you in incorporating stress-relieving practices and oils in my life. What works for me may not work for you, but I hope you’ll give a few of these oils and practices a try!

Recognize that self-care is important for your sanity and for you baby’s health. Taking time to de-stress is not selfish. So incorporate that time for yourself & learn what works best for you now.

Some GREAT oils to aid your emotions:

Valor and Peace & Calming. I like to smell these right out of the bottle, put them on my wrists, or add to the diffuser when I feel particularly uptight.

Peace & Calming contains Ylang Ylang, Orange, Tangerine, Patchouli, and Blue Tansy. This sweet & gentle blend is great for calming the mind and the body when you feel uptight. I like to rub this on my chest (as long as I’m not about to spend time outside). This is also a favorite to use during breathing exercises.

Valor contains Black Spruce, Camphor, Blue Tansy, Frankincense, Geranium, and a bit of a carrier oil. This was a very calming and comforting oil I used during my second pregnancy, and I liked to roll it on my wrists or use during breathing exercises.

A simple breathing exercise to incorporate:
+ Make note of your stress level: 1 being low stress and 10 being high stress.
+ Sit with your feet flat on the floor if you are in a chair or cross-legged on the floor.
+ Drop some oils into your palm, rub in, cup over your nose, and breathe in a couple times. (Or you can do it without oils if you don't have any in reach.)
+ Place one hand on your stomach and one hand over your heart.
+ Close your eyes.
+ Breathe in through your nose for 4 seconds, making sure you are taking a deep breath. Your stomach should push out a bit (depending on how big your belly is, it may be hard to take those deep breaths, I know).
+ Hold your breath for 2 seconds.
+ Breathe out through your mouth like you are blowing out a candle for about 7 seconds.
+ Do this a few times and note whether your stress level dropped, even 1 point.

Some other practices you may find helpful in addition to oils:

+prenatal yoga: I really liked Spinning Babies prenatal yoga, but there are a lot of free resources, too!

+ meditation: “Headspace” is a great app that I use for breathing and mindfulness exercises.

+ gratitude: You can use the app “Gratitude” or you can just use a journal - I try to write down at least 3 a day.

+ a probiotic: Your gut health is REALLY essential for your emotional and mental health - Betsy Bosom’s Baby Book has an INCREDIBLE chapter on supplements and nutrition.

No Ifs, Ands, or Buts… Get Gentle Baby - Gentle Baby smells like a sweet little babe. It is the first oil I got after purchased my Young Living Premium Starter Kit because it was SO CALMING to me. My girl, Emily, gave me a little bottle of 10 drops, and I made those 10 drops last a good long time until I got my own bottle! This is one that really reminds me of my early days of oiling & when my first son was really little. It brings back such sweet memories.  Gentle Baby contains Coriander, Geranium, Palmarosa, Lavender, Ylang Ylang, Roman Chamomile, Bergamot, Lemon, Jasmine, and Rose.

These oils can all fit into these different categories for emotions, hormones, and skin. I’m going to list them here so you can get a bit of a sense of what this blend & these singles might help you out with during your pregnancy!

Calming for emotions: Coriander, Palmarosa, Lavender, Roman Chamomile, Bergamot, Lemon, Jasmine, Rose

Support for hormones: Geranium, Ylang Ylang

Incredible for skin: Geranium, Palmarosa, Lavender, Lemon, Rose

So how can you use Gentle Baby during pregnancy?

+You can use it for the skin support by mixing it with a carrier oil (like Young Living’s V-6 or coconut oil) or making a body butter to rub on your growing belly, breasts, and buttocks. (See the recipe in a few posts.)

+You can also use it in your diffuser: 2-3 drops of Gentle Baby + 2 drops Orange.

+Wear it on diffuser jewelry so you smell it throughout the day.

+Put a Young Living roller top on your bottle and keep in your purse so you can roll on whenever you need it.

A Healthy, Happy Gut - The first trimester digestion issues are no joke; sometimes those first trimester things turn into entire pregnancy things. Maybe you have it bad, or maybe you have it pretty easy. At some point in your pregnancy, you may experience some symptoms that really affect your digestive system - nausea, upset stomach, heartburn.

Peppermint and lemon are oils I keep on hand to smell when I feel a little queasy. Sipping on some NingXia Red can be really helpful, too, helping you stay hydrated while supplying your body with vitamins and antioxidants.

DiGize is a great blend that you can use as needed during pregnancy. I don’t adore the smell (particularly during pregnancy), so I like to apply to the bottoms of my feet with a carrier oil or press a bit of a drop under my tongue when I feel a bit of indigestion. My friend preferred AromaEase during pregnancy because the smell of DiGize put her off, and that is another great option to apply topically or to diffuse. KidScents TummyGize is also a great option for pregnancy; it is like a mild version of DiGize & it is diluted. Just pop a roller top on it, and toss it in your purse or diaper bag (I have two kids and rarely carry my own purse when we are out).

When navigating digestion and making sure you are getting the right nutrients to support your growing baby, your physician or midwife is a great resource! They can help you navigate what might be missing in your diet - vitamin B, Omega-3s, magnesium, calcium, or iron. REMEMBER: Young Living has INCREDIBLE supplements to support your body. NingXia Red is packed with vitamins B and C + lots of antioxidants! And it tastes DELICIOUS!

I’ve mentioned probiotics before, but I just have to mention them again! When you take probiotics during pregnancy, you pass on a healthy gut microbiome to your growing baby! I LOVE Young Living’s Life 9 probiotic & think it is essential for EVERYONE but especially for pregnant ladies.

If you want more information on great supplements and nutrients for pregnancy, I recommend Betsy Bosom’s Baby Book!

Healthy Sleep - Mamas of all stages, sleep is a precious thing. When you sleep, your body repairs itself. Your body is also working overtime to grow that sweet baby in your womb. So it is no surprise that you are tired.

Sometimes sleep seems so elusive - heartburn, restless legs, anxiety, insomnia, leg cramps, bathroom breaks, or general discomfort. There are so many things that can keep us from getting quality sleep. Plus, if this isn’t your first rodeo, other kids who wake up in the middle of the night or early add another challenge into your day. There are a few studies that show sleep is an important part of your own health and your growing baby’s health. When you are rested, you can better handle what life throws at you. So what can we do to support healthy sleep?

Use any oils that are relaxing to you, and consider using:

+Lavender: Helps calm the mind so you can fall asleep.
+Cedarwood: Put it on your big toes (your reflex point for the brain) to help your brain rest.
+Roman Chamomile: Calming for the nervous system.
+Tranquil Roller: Contains Lavender, Cedarwood, and Roman +Chamomile and helps your brain and body rest. I liked to roll this one on my back and tense muscles, too.
+Patchouli: Calming for the emotions (and good for skin).
+German Chamomile. Good for muscles and for the mind.
+Copaiba: I like to place a drop or two under my tongue before bed to help quiet my body and mind.

Other tips to help your mind slow down so you can sleep:

+Drink a small cup of warm milk and honey before bed.
+Turn off your screens an hour before bed so the blue light doesn’t keep you awake.
+Read until your eyelids are heavy.
+Sleep with a pillow between your legs to support your hips.
+Reapply oils in the middle of the night if you need to.
+Practice some deep breathing before you go to bed. When I meditate using the “Headspace” app, I get really drowsy because my mind slows down and my body relaxes.

If you have a concern about sleep, be sure to mention it to your practitioner.

Staying Positive - Let’s talk about staying positive. Nine months can fly by or drag on. Staying positive might be a challenge for you. When I was pregnant with my second, I had a few weeks of misery - food aversion and morning sickness that turned into heartburn, sitting in front of the toilet, literally sucking lemons when I couldn’t stomach ANYTHING. My attitude was wrecked during those weeks when I wasn’t actively setting my heart and mind on the positive.

Your mental health can make a really positive impact on your pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum recovery.

We’ve talked about managing stress and supporting your emotions, but let’s talk specifically about uplifting your mood.

Some of my favorite pregnancy-friendly oils for mood:

+ Joy: Use 1 drop in the differ with 3-4 drops of Lemon or Orange for a cheery diffuser blend or dilute and apply over your heart in the morning or evening.

+ Citrus: You can diffuse citrus and enjoy the brightness of these oils! I really love to use Bergamot + Patchouli or Tangerine + Cypress. You can also try Lime, Lemon, or Orange! And the blends Citrus Fresh and StressAway are both very citrus-y!

+ Frankincense: Frankincense is really great for your brain. When you support your brain, you are supporting you mind. Pair Frankincense with daily affirmations and you have a winning combo!

+ Grounding: This smells like walking through a forest (which is also really good for your health). I like to use this one while walking, stretching, or doing a bit of yoga.

+ Northern Lights Black Spruce: Tree oils are very grounding & this beautiful single oil is so good for calming the mind and emotions. Diffuse with citrus oils for a great balance.

Two additional exercises you can use to stay positive: gratitude and daily affirmations.

One : Gratitude
Gratitude makes an enormous difference in our emotions and mood, rewiring our brains. Take a few minutes whenever you are feeling down to write down a few things you are thankful for, appreciating what you have.

Two : Daily Affirmations
Ditch negative thinking and practice positive affirmations. One of my regulars: “In Your presence there is fullness of joy.” When I wake up, I remind myself that there is joy in the Lord’s presence. When I was pregnant with my second son, I would remind myself: “My body is strong, I am brave, and I can breathe out my baby.” Beginning these affirmations long before my labor was helpful when I got to the point of labor, but I continue to use various affirmations every day.

Body Care - I WISH I would have been more proactive about my skin when I was pregnant with my first. My belly grew SO big, and I just didn’t have the resources to know what to use on my skin. Moisturising your stretching skin is a really important first step. When you keep your skin moist, it will stretch better and be able to recover better after birth.

Some moisturising favorites:
Young Living’s Coconut Lime Replenishing Body Butter
Young Living’s Seedlings Baby Lotion
Young Living’s V-6 Carrier Oil

DIY Belly Butter
If you want to create something for your growing belly, you can whip this up.
¼ cup of unrefined cocoa butter
¼ cup of unrefined shea butter
¼ cup of raw coconut oil
¼ cup of jojoba oil or hemp seed oil
1 teaspoon vitamin E
20 drops frankincense essential oil
20 drops lavender essential oil
20 drops Gentle Baby essential oil

1. Add the oils to a glass bowl or double boiler. Simmer water in a small saucepan and place the glass bowl over it.
2. Melt and mix the oils (cocoa, shea, coconut, and jojoba) in the glass bowl.
3. Once they are mixed, allow the oils to cool and begin to harden. To speed up this process, set the bowl over an ice bath (a bowl with cold water and ice).
4. Once the oils are about halfway hardened with the edges set and the center still liquid, add the essential oils.
5. Use a hand mixer to whip up the body butter.
6. Spoon into jars.

Some other oils great for skin care:
+Tangerine (just remember that citrus oils are photosensitive)
+Orange
+Geranium
+Patchouli
+Blue Tansy
+Cedarwood (also photosensitive, though it isn’t a citrus oil)

ClaraDerm is a Young Living spray that contains fractionated coconut oil, Myrrh, Tea Tree, Frankincense, Lavender, Helichrysum, and Roman Chamomile. I know lots of mamas choose to have this in their hospital or birth bag. This spray can be used for those sensitive areas that need extra tender care and healing, especially after childbirth. This can also be used to nourish your stretching skin throughout pregnancy when it needs some extra care.

As I mentioned in my intro, I added 1-2 drops of lavender to the warm water of my peri-bottle before I sprayed my bum during my postpartum recoveries & it was a huge help. Ladies, and I could tell a difference between that Walmart lavender during my first postpartum recovery and the Young Living Lavender I used during my second postpartum recovery. I will NEVER go back because YL worked so well!

Getting Ready for Baby - Before we wrap up our class, let’s talk about baby’s arrival! This is what you’ve been waiting 9 months for! Soon, you will hold that sweet little baby in your arms and kiss his or her cheeks! This is SO exciting! This is a time of preparation and nesting and sorting stuff for your sweet one’s arrival. You have been using cleaner products for yourself and learning how to use plants to support your body and your growing little one. What might you need for your baby once he or she is here?

The Seedlings Line is a go-to toolbox of products for your new baby! It includes:
+Seedlings Diaper Rash Cream
+Seedings Baby Oil
+Seedlings Baby Lotion
+Seedlings Linen Spray
+Seedlings Baby Wash & Shampoo
+Seedlings Wipes
+Seedlings Essential Oil Blend

The calm Seedlings scent was created specifically for this baby line, and it contains Lavender, Coriander, Bergamot, Ylang Ylang, and Geranium. The oils and oil-infused products are all great for calming baby (and mom!). When you begin using these products before baby arrives, it will help you associate the smell with calm. When I was pregnant with my second, I used the Seedlings Baby Wash on myself, and I felt nice and calm after a shower. Plus, it was reassuring to know that I had clean products for my baby once he was born - gentle diaper cream, relaxing bath wash, and safe lotion. I didn’t have to worry about what I was putting on my new baby’s skin.

One last favorite I used: Thieves Laundry Soap. I didn’t buy a special baby detergent for those little tiny onesies. I just washed them with the Laundry Soap I used and loved, knowing it would be gentle on his skin and not overwhelmingly strong with harsh synthetic smells.

Recap

Mamas, essential oils and daily practices to de-stress and sleep well will make your pregnancy just a tad easier. Moisturising your skin is great for your growing body and can be calming for your mind, too. When you feel emotionally healthy, you can welcome your baby into a calmer home.

If you are close to your due date and feel like you are bringing your baby into chaos and stress, don’t fret. You’ve been doing the best you can with what you know and what you have. That takes great courage, lady! Be proud of yourself!

I think we are all just doing the best we can. Maybe all the information presented in this class feels like WAY TOO MUCH. How could you ever incorporate all of it? Don’t try to! Just pick one or two things. When those become part of your routine, come back, review the information, and pick another thing to incorporate into your life. Baby steps!

Thank you so much for joining me for this class on oils + pregnancy and for sticking with me through all the content! The posts turned out MUCH longer than I anticipated! I’m so glad you came, and I really hope you feel more confident to use essential oils during your pregnancy. I want you to feel like you have the education you need in order to rock these 9 months with the help of plants!

Just a reminder: talk to your doctor or midwife. They want to help you have a healthy pregnancy. They want to make sure the things you are experiencing in your body are not an indicator of a deeper issue. Be open with them as you walk through your pregnancy with them.

Thank you so much for setting aside time and being a part of this class! I’ve loved it & it is lovely to meet you all! May the Lord bless your pregnancies and your sweet little babies!
