Evaluation of Algorithms in off-line signature's recognition

Signature's Recognition Problems
Static: users write their signature on paper, digitize it through an optical scanner or a camera, and the system recognizes the signature analyzing its shape. This is also known as “off-line”

{Original} or {Forged}
True or False

Defined: Signature recognition is a behavioural biometric.

How to define a "good" Algorithm for Signature Recognition?
ICDAR Biannual Competitions
• ICDAR 2011 (SigComp2011)
• ICDAR 2013 (SigWiComp2013)
• ICDAR 2015 (SigWiComp2015)
International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition.
ICDAR is an international academic conference, which is held every two years in a different city.
It is about character and symbol recognition, printed/handwritten text, graphics analysis, document analysis, document understanding, document based forensics...
... and text signature recogniton
Signature's Recognition Competitions
So is the Winner of the last year the best Algorithm?
No
• has different Data Set also with different languanges (Dutch, Chiense, Italian...)
• represents lots of Systems.
• Each System expresses a various numbers of Algorithms.
• Each Algorithm implementation solves a specific data set variation.
The best solution is to evaluate all the "best" algoritms in order to develop a Better Solution.
Algorithms structure
Our purpose is to find a better solution by examining the ICDAR Algorithms
Considering only the OFF-LINE competition
Considering only the dutch, latin or Italian data sets
Considering only the first three algorithms with better resoults
Evaluate and Study the resulting algorithms

alg 1
alg 2
alg 3
"best" algorithm
... ensemble method
Thanks for your attention.
