About
The Guanajuato's mummies is a set of bodies naturally mummified. Nowadays is the one of the biggest attraction of México with more than 100 mummies.
Origin of mummies
In Mexico many municipal cemeteries need you to pay for bury a person, if you don't pay, the person is exhumed and this is what happened . Due to the properties that the soil had, the mummies could be preserved.
The first mummy
The first mummy was found almost 150 years ago.
The museum
Origin of the museum
The museum is located esplanade of the municipal pantheon.
The curiosity of people about of how mummies look like motivated to open the first samples of the museum. Then after the success of the movie "El Santo contra las momias de Guanajuato" in 1970, the catacombs they were insufficient.
