Discussion 1/29—Find Me

  • Name a recurring theme or pattern in Find Me. This might be explicit (the nature of memory in the novel and its portrayal) or subtextual. Make note of 2 or 3 examples of that pattern or theme. Why is that theme or pattern significant? Think about your first assignment. Brainstorm two or three potential focuses your research might take and discuss them here.

In-Class Writing Prompt 1/29 (post on Course Den)

What is the importance of memory and forgetting in this novel? Why does the author focus on those themes?

On page 21, the narrator, while getting a haircut, is told she looks like a former client of the barber's. She wonders if this "same-faced person has lost their memory." How can memory be dystopian?

Think about the nature of dystopia. Keeping in mind that a dystopia takes some problematic facet of society through to a nightmarish conclusion, what is that facet?  What is the cause of the dystopia in Find Me (not just the disease)?
