DESIGN

The design of the digipak is the conventional 4 panel book-style digipak.

Variants of blue are used in the digipak which could suggest the type of music the album contains, calming and peaceful music. Similarly to Rihanna, Coldplay are well known so they won't need a recurring theme or logo for people to recognise them. This allows them to recreate their brand and visual style for every new album.

The dark sea blue that they use doesn't suggest an intended target audience (although blue is often seen as a very masculine colour) which may show that their music is for both genders.

CD DESIGN

The CD adds to the concept of calmness and peacefulness as the image used on the CD is of the sea at night. The sea has positive connotations of being serene, beautiful and calm however we may also interpret it as being empty, alone and isolated which may signify that the type of music on the album is very depressing.

As I have previously mentioned, because the band are well known they won't need a specific logo or branding on their digipak because people are already familiar with who they are, when creating my digipak I will have a logo that will appear on both the digipak, the music video and the website to show consistency as my band aren't very well known. At the top of the CD we see the name of the band "Coldplay" and the album title "Ghost Stories". At the bottom of the CD we see all the copyright information. The texts are all gold which makes them stand out however it is a dirty gold colour which makes it look calming.

FRONT COVER

The front cover keeps to the colour scheme of blue. Unlike other albums, the front cover doesn't contain any textual information not even the album name, the only thing we see is an image of two angel wings floating on top of the dark blue sea. The angel wings could symbolise their faith as the band members are all Christian and were all choir boys. I feel that the decision not to have the band name or album title on the front cover can be justified through the fact that they are very well known.

BACK COVER

Coldplay keep to the convention of having the tracklist on the back cover. Similarly to the CD, all the text on the back is dirty gold too, this shows consistency which I will definitely be trying to do with my digipak. The image used on the back is similar to the image on the front cover, a dark calming sea.
