hi.

So why are we here?

I might have some thoughts on this

deep thoughts

Always keep in mind the user experience.

mmmm, that secret sauce is delicious.

To develop a good talk:

  1. FIGURE out what you are talking about

  2. Develop Content

  3. Delivery

what are you talking about?

I know, it sounds crazy, but humor me on this.

Who are you speakng to?

the real end users

Start with the end in mind.

the journey is not the destination this time

  1. What are the 3 big core concepts should the target audience know by the end of the presentation?

  2. What can they use at their job tomorrow?

  3. What are the next steps the audience can take?

  4. What materials are they walking away with?

now that we the destination, we need to create the journey

I am never lost, just bewildered for a bit

Develop the content

as easy as developing software

focus on the story

the never-ending story

what type of talk are you giving

fully hands-on

only static content

Live coding is hard

but you look amazing doing it

4 types of content

  1. what does the screen say

  2. what do you say

  3. what does the audience get

  4. what does the speaker see?

slides.

safety hazard, death by powerpoint

what are you going to say

"all the world's a stage", someone famous said this

what is the audience going to get?

gotta get me all that swag 😎

speaker notes are a thing

one does not simply give a talk without notes

Talk delivery

UPS, USPS or Fedex?

relax

its going to be okay, its only public speaking

Get everyone on the same page

pretend they are Jon Snow and they know nothing.

pacing

“stay on target.” – Gold Five

interacting with the audience

We can all see each other.

Stage Presence

look at me, this is my stage now.

Humor

Everyone's a critic.

When things go wrong.

Don't panic, and carry a towel

all of this sounds fine and dandy, but... How do i get better?

Where is my easy button?

planning is everything, the plan is nothing.

Dwight Eisenhower said that, and he is right you know.

best way to get better is to do it.

and that is real secret sauce

Q&A time. what are you thinking?

like Pat said, "hit me with your best shot!"

thanks for coming.

thanks for listening

you are awesome.

feel free to reach out
