Title Text

Isaiah 43:22 “Yet you have not called on Me, O Jacob; But you have become weary of Me, O Israel.
   23 “You have not brought to Me the sheep of your burnt offerings, Nor have you honored Me with your sacrifices. I have not burdened you with offerings, Nor wearied you with incense.
   24 “You have bought Me not sweet cane with money, Nor have you filled Me with the fat of your sacrifices; Rather you have burdened Me with your sins, You have wearied Me with your iniquities.

   25 “I, even I, am the one who wipes out your transgressions for My own sake, And I will not remember your sins.
   26 “Put Me in remembrance, let us argue our case together; State your cause, that you may be proved right.
   27 “Your first forefather sinned, And your spokesmen have transgressed against Me.
   28 “So I will pollute the princes of the sanctuary, And I will consign Jacob to                     the ban and Israel to revilement.

22 “Yet you have not called on Me, O Jacob;
But you have become weary of Me, O Israel.

Weary of Me (v. 22)

We grow weary of God when:

  • we feel like God is a burden rather than a delight.

We grow weary of God when:

  • we feel like God is a burden rather than a delight.

  • we walk in unrepentant sin.

We grow weary of God when:

  • we feel like God is a burden rather than a delight.

  • we walk in unrepentant sin.

  • we think of God as being useful rather than worthy.

We grow weary of God when:

  • we feel like God is a burden rather than a delight.

  • we walk in unrepentant sin.

  • we think of God as being useful rather than worthy.

  • we grow weary of the sin/confession cycle.

23 You have not brought me sheep for burnt offerings, nor honored me with your sacrifices. I have not burdened you with grain offerings nor wearied you with demands for incense. 24 You have not bought any fragrant calamus for me, or lavished on me the fat of your sacrifices. But you have burdened me with your sins and wearied me with your offenses.

The Results of Weariness (vv. 23-24)

Isa 1:11, 13–14 – “11 “The multitude of your sacrifices— what are they to me?” says the Lord. “I have more than enough of burnt offerings, of rams and the fat of fattened animals; I have no pleasure in the blood of bulls and lambs and goats….13 Stop bringing meaningless offerings! Your incense is detestable to me. New Moons, Sabbaths and convocations— I cannot bear your worthless assemblies. 14 Your New Moon feasts and your appointed festivals I hate with all my being. They have become a burden to me; I                 am weary of bearing them.”

“In other words, Israel’s worship was such a farce, such a misrepresentation of the truth, that the Lord did not regard it as worship of himself at all. It was utterly repugnant to him.”

    --Dr. Barry Webb

      26 Review the past for me,
         let us argue the matter together;
         state the case for your innocence.
      27 Your first father sinned;
         those I sent to teach you rebelled against me.
      28 So I disgraced the dignitaries of your temple;
         I consigned Jacob to destruction
         and Israel to scorn.

Hear this when you've grown weary with God (vv. 26-28)

Isaiah 44:25

“We humans do not like grace; we like to feel that we deserve everything we get.

We want to be able to say that our good behavior has earned favorable treatment for us before the bar of God.”

  --John Oswalt

Isaiah 44:25

We grow weary of God when:

  • we feel like God is a burden rather than a delight.

  • we walk in unrepentant sin.

  • we think of God as being useful rather than worthy.

  • we grow weary of the sin/confession cycle.

We grow weary of God when:

  • we feel like God is a burden rather than a delight.

We delight in the God who wipes away all our transgressions and remembers our sins no more.

We grow weary of God when:

  • we walk in unrepentant sin.

When we delight in the God who forgives sin, we are much more willing to truly confess and truly repent of our sins.

We grow weary of God when:

  • we think of God as being useful rather than worthy.

When God becomes what we want,

we delight in the God who has given

Himself to us.

We grow weary of God when:

  • we grow weary of the sin/confession cycle.

When we delight in God, we will be willing to radically "pluck out" that which rivals Him in our hearts.

When you are weary with God, the problem is never God.
