8-0 in the second inning, the winning pitcher in sight... but a rainy no-hitter. 11-win ace, first win of the second half hard to come by
LG Twins pitcher Adam Plutko took the loss in his comeback game.
The right-hander pitched 1 1/3 innings of two-hit ball against the Kia Tigers at Gwangju-Kia Champions Field on Aug. 8 before a rainout ended his chances of winning the game.
It was an unusual start for Plutko. After going 11-1 with a 2.21 ERA in 17 appearances in the first half of the season, Plutko took the loss in his first start of the second half on July 25 against the Suwon KT Wiz, giving up three runs on four hits in six innings, but the team lost 1-4. After being diagnosed with COVID-19 and resting, he was ready to pitch again and made his second start of the second half in two weeks.
With KIA's ace Yang Hyun-jong on the mound, a pitching battle was expected, but Plutko was able to get out of the first inning with ease as his teammates scored five runs in the top of the first.
After getting Choi Won-jun to ground out to shortstop and Park Chan-ho to fly out to center field, Plutko gave up a single to Kim Do-young at third. A stolen base and a wild pitch later put runners on second and third, but he got Na Sung-bum to ground out to short to end the first inning.
