NIGUN

A RF downconverter

DECT

GPS

ISM 2.4GHz

BLUETOOTH

24MHz-1700MHz

PURPOSE

TO ALLOW RECEIVING OF WIRELESS SIGNALS IN FREQUENCIES HIGHER THAN 1500MHZ WITH LOWER-FREQUENCY SDR

DEV PROCESS

  1. Determine frequency conversions
  2. Design a block diagram
  3. Choose main components
  4. Design board schematics and layout
  5. Produce and test a prototype board

MAIN DECISIONS

  • Went for a constant IF architecture (details following)
    • LO will be determined by the user and programmed by the MCU
  • Decided to skip most of the filtering
    • It's hard to design a filter for every case
    • Also, wanted to keep design flexible
  • Power up and programming via micro-usb connector
    • Should be able to power up from a USB power-pack

INITIAL, BASIC BLOCK DIAGRAM

Was thinking about filtering, amplification, frequency synthesis...

Luckily, I found most of them under one chip (details in a few minutes)

DETAILED,EVOLVED BLOCK DIAGRAM

TBD

changed to skyworks

found a constant LPF

MAIN COMPONENTS

MIXER + VCO\PLL

ATSAMD20E17A-MU

  • 128Kb Flash
  • 16Kb SRAM
  • No USB controller
    • Will probably use V-USB

INPUT SWITCH

OUTPUT SWITCH

POTENTIAL USE-CASES

  • Down-converter
  • DIY signal generator
  • DIY network analyzer
  • Low-power FM transmitter (by altering the VCO)
