Scheduling at USC Currently

  • No software/application provided to schedule semesters
    • Webreg is okay, but not useful for long term
    • Same with schedule of classes
  • Schedule of Classes is tedious
    • Lots of tabs
    • Lots of back and forth

  • You have to keep track of your co-reqs and pre-reqs
  • You have to keep track of your credits
  • Difficult to see the larger picture
    • Usually only concerned with next semester
    • What about study abroad? 
    • What about graduating early/late?
    • Can I fit an additional major/minor?

Our Solution

  • SCheduler for USC
    • Organizes your classes by semester
    • Displays your major, minor, and GE requirements
    • Calculates the total number of credits
    • Can print/email your SChedule to your advisor
  • All on one page
  • Google Account to access -- no registration required
  • USC email if Google apps are enabled


Technology

  • We developed this application using the MEAN stack without Angular
    • MongoDB - Database
    • Express - Framework
    • NodeJS - Server
  • Google's OAuth API for user & login
  • Official USC SOC API to gather class data
  • Heroku to host our application

Since Sunday

  • Social Influence Metrics:
    • Over 250 likes on Facebook
    • Over 70 people signed up for beta (since yesterday @ midnight)

User Suggestions

  • Take into account classes that can only be offered in the Fall and in the Spring
  • Include list of requirements for pre-health and pre-law along with major requirements
  • Sync recommendations for GEs based on course reviews

Since Sunday

  • Database is set up
    • We have fixed the issues with setting up and accessing our database
    • Currently filling up our database with class information
  • Splash page 
    • Implemented cookies
    • Implemented sessions

Future Goals

  • Some ideas that we would love to implement:
    • Multiple majors and minors
    • Search for GEs, diversity classes, etc.
    • Integrate with course evals/ratemyprofessor
    • Be able to read from your STARS report
    • Study abroad
    • Progressive degree
