About me

Technical Director @

Developer & Umbraco MVP

Organised Umbraco Spark

Not a event organiser

Not even organised

Actually got Cat and Laura @gibe to organise and design it

What?

A conference for developers by developers

Looking at new technology, innovation, learning, inspiring

Want to make you think outside of your day job

Why did we do it?

  • At Gibe we really wanted to find a way to contribute in a meaningful way to the community
  • The festivals are becoming less developer focused (not a bad thing)
  • But I enjoy events aimed solely at developers, I can't be the only one?
  • Could the UK support two events? Only one way to find out
  • Wanted to work with, not compete against, The UK Festival
  • Why not?

When and where?

  • The M-Shed @ Bristol (For this year at least)
  • March 6th 2020
  • Still some tickets left £100+VAT

Who?

Like last year, some speakers picked some via open call on the site

The focus on innovation/new made this hard last year so we have expanded the scope

Open call for speakers on the site

Think we have ended up with a great mix

Some of my highlights from last year

V8 is awesome

V8 is not perfect

The power of GraphQL

UmbraCoffee

The positive atmosphere

Interesting things about running aconference?

Twitter is an echo chamber

<1% of Umbraco community is active on Twitter

Getting people to know about an event is hard

Need a good team with someone organised and it doesn't feel like work

You need to order everything 2 weeks out or longer

People will book in the last few weeks (~20%)

Something will go wrong, stay positive

The Umbraco community is amazing #H5YR

People like free notebooks

This year

2021

Organised by a collective
Moving location

(North of England?)

Possibility of Umbraco Spark USA!?
