Why a Podcast?

  • Students can listen to anywhere and anytime
  • Frees up time in the classroom
  • Adds a new form of learning
  • High bandwidth not required to listen
  • Sparks the imagination
  • great way to convey conversations

Best Uses for a Podcast

  • Record an interview or a conversation with an expert or guest 
  • utilize imagination and voice rather than visuals
  • Record an environment where you want to concentrate on its auditory nature (ie. park, farm, factory)
  • Record a podcast that uses music or other sounds

The Don'ts of Podcasting

  • Do not simply record a 2-3 hour lecture (or they fall asleep)
  • Do not simply read notes (or they fall asleep)
  • Avoid monotone (or they fall asleep)

The Do's of Podcasting

  • Shorter is better, especially only with one person, but more leeway to be longer with podcasts than video
  • Keep it interesting
  • Be excited!
  • Add inflection into your voice, change your tone
  • Medium is auditory in nature, so add sound
  • Get a quality recording
  • Pay attention to your environment

  • External Mic (eg. Yeti) or Headset Mic
    • USB or 3.5mm jack
