Question no. 4

Part 3

Post- Production

Representation of Age

Our intended target audience is teenagers to young adults and we facilitated that by creating our characters to look like young adults as our audience to ensure that the audience found it easy to connect to the characters and the thriller/horror genre. In our final film opening we dressed our characters match the typical clothes that teenagers and young adults in Britain wear today.

We realized it was quite a difficult to emulate this genre by using teenagers but we stuck by our ideas with the help of some inspiration from other existing films such as the film…

Chronicles, its main cast is teenagers and the plot highlighting the implications which occur when ordinary teenagers are fortunate enough to acquire supernatural abilities. This film uses these young actors to appeal to the younger adult audience and give them a sense of surreal euphoria capturing the reactions of these supernatural teenagers on camera.Characters Andrew, Matt and Steve are three random students in high school, who go out and have fun making the most of their youthful days. This is relatable to the vast majority of teenagers today and allows the audience to connect to these characters in the first few opening scenes. This is what we achieved in our media product by adding the little dialogue of university taster days which shows that Sarah is still in College/ Sixth form.

Representation of Gender

The representation of females in Thrillers and Horrors are stereotypically submissive whose roles in the film are limited and have insufficient impact to the film. We decided to subvert along with filming industries norm and presented the Protagonist, Sarah with qualities that would ensure there was sufficient tension in the film opening. We hoped to appeal to the young adult audience by subverting from the stereotypical representation of the females and bring in a new representation. This was done by making Sarah have receptive abilities aware of the stalker

A similar films which presents the feminine character in such a way like the popular franchise Scream.

In this scene the protagonist, Sidney is fighting off two
male characters who are trying to kill her to ensure that she does not tell the
police about the identity of the mass murderer Ghostface. At the beginning of
the scene we can see through the absence of the protagonist and the destructive
behaviour of the antagonist that Sidney behaviour conforms to stereotypical
feminine behaviour in the horror genre. However as the tension heightens the
character Sidney subverts from the stereotypical behaviour of the females by
attacking the attackers. Once again this is done to heighten the drama and
action additionally highlights the capabilities and the resourcefulness of
females, scoring high marks with the female audience contributing to the film’s
success.
