What is usability?

It's as simple as whether or not your website is easy to use.

Predevelopment

we explore websites

click instead of read

We are in a hurry

We just want the information we came for

Don't make me think

Steve Krug

What makes us think?

Names of things

Obvious to Everybody

vs.

Truly Obscure

The f pattern

Web users are impatient

Instant Gratification.

Users don't make optimal choices

Satisfice

Economist Herbert Simon coined the term “satisfice”

(a cross between satisfying and sufficing)

As soon as users find a link that seems like it might lead to the goal, there is a very good chance that it will be immediately clicked.

Users won’t bother to look at the whole web page,

and then try to choose the best option.

Why Don't Users Look
for the best choice?

All about planning

The bones behind the site
