In the WordPress community, everything was different and I thought WOW how awesome and welcoming it is.

WordPress Community VALUES are:

DIVERSITY

inclusivity

accessibility

equality

they really are.

but are we doing enough or these words are just the buzz to make us feel better?

On this LEVEL people see 

Diversity as Adversity.

On this LEVEL people realize

that it’s both morally right and good to create a more inclusive and diverse workplace. but someone else should and will do it. 

Level 2: Partially Enlightened

On this LEVEL people know

that not only does drawing, growing, and keeping a richer range of humanity into the micro world create goodwill, it builds a great business. The same can be said for people of entities whose bottom line is not financial.

Level 3: clear visibility

but why

IF you hire a woman over a man it's not a big deal considering that men have been hired over women so many times in the past

?

is it fair?

if you are a white male and you get rejected for a job that you are qualified for and have a lot of experience, it sucks and it's unfair.

it seems unfair just because we reaped the spoils of white male privilege for so long.

but

and we are spoiled so bad that we can't accept that someone from a marginalized group should have an advantage and we need to wait for another chance.

is there a morally relevant reason for the discrimination?

no!

get to know someone from marginalized group:

  1. LGBTQ
  2. Immigrants and racial minorities
  3. People with little or no economic resources
  4. Women
  5. The elderly, ex-convicts, drug addicts, illiterate.
  6. People with disabilities

 

you will see that you have more things in common than you thought.

we are not so different and our differences are making us unique.
