All North Carolina public schools should update their insufficient lockdown procedure or adopt an existing procedure
such as A.L.I.C.E., because it could potentially
- forestall the likelihood that students are targeted during attacks
- prepare students during fatal encounters
- decrease casualties

“Everybody went into a panic. They didn’t know what to do. I hid behind the teacher’s podium and then realized that there [was] nothing locking [the] door. [Seung-Hui Cho’s] just [going] to come in. So, I said, “We need to barricade this door.” [...] He eventually came to our door, tried to open the door—it didn’t go—so he tried to shoulder his way in [...] but he just kept going. He didn’t try to get back in there."
