Research Overview

Rocky 2018: International Society for Computational Biology-Link

  • Got to present our ideas as a poster on using CNNs in classifying cancer through DNA Methylation
  • Shared our ideas among several pioneers and people from distinguished academic backgrounds like the American Museum of Natural History, Imperial College London, Stanford University, University of Washington

Importance of Edge computing

  • The new era of IoT(Internet of Things) the number of devices connected to the web is increasing by the million.
  • The existence of such devices demands cloud-based services for data collection. But there is a higher need to get the data centers closer to the devices.
  • •Advantages:

•Latency, internet bandwidth costs, and security concerns

  • Applications:

    •  Self Driving Car

    • Security Cameras

Detection of boxes in an industrial belt

  • Using Computer Vision to detect the items in a box
  • The small period of time the camera captures the image
  • Using smaller machine learning models

Trial Success Metric System using Quantum Computers

  • Key Feature of the TPO. It helps in predicting the likelihood of a Trial being successful will be hugely beneficial during Trial Design.
  • New MIT Study Puts Clinical Research Success Rate at 14%. Only 14% of all drugs in clinical trials eventually win approval from the FDA
  • Several factors which affect this include :
    • Recruiting patients: Finding the right patient for a clinical trial. An increase in attrition rates of patients during a trial is also high.
      • Lack of Infrastructure or Sites
      • This further leads to lower chances of the drug reaching the market

Open Source Efforts-IndicNLP-Link

  • IndicNLP is an opensource initiative to learn representations for Indian languages and to also curate datasets for the same

  • We feel that this is important since Indian languages are unique and have a lot of unique features (like half letters, genders) that English languages do not have and so it can help progress NLP. it can also help save some of the lesser spoken dialects and languages of India

Detecting Casual Sexism at the Workplaces

  • Four in ten women in the United States have faced gender discrimination in their workplace. Sexism at the workplace is a global problem.
  • Casual Sexism-What is that?
  • But the masculine skew allows casual sexism to go unchecked, exemplified by ill-advised comments from certain peers. It’s so subtle that you’re often left wondering if it really happened, and when you try to talk about it, you sound like a crazy person because it’s so small – but it’s death by a thousand paper cuts

Two Avenues

  • Integrating with the Slack Platform-Link
  • Reddit bot to detect toxic comments
