outline of video
My video is based on how black women are portrayed in the media. Them being marginalized as well as compared and pitched against other women.
My video will show how black females are taught that certain things are beautiful and what they have isn't. At the end of my video I will hopefully have taught black females that the media shouldn't tell you what to look like, and they should aspire for things that aren't materialistic neither should they change themselves to it what society wants.
why i choose the song
I decided to pick the song as it matches my storyyline. Tupac made the song to dedicate it to black women.
youtube comments
To help me get a better idea of the song and its meaning to people I decided to look at the YouTube comments as a lot of my target audience would listen and comment on the song. I found that people found the song inspirational and helped them work through problems. This is how I felt when listening to the song. This reassured me that my story line fits the song and its something my target audience would like.
Cast
I have decided to have a large cast. only one character has a main part in a scene. I choose to use many people to show the different tones of black females.
storyboard
At the beginning of the Music video, you will see a over the shoulder shot of someone switching on the TV. You will then see a close up of a digital/fake Tv screen, I have chosen this to show that Tv isn't real, it's made up, it is not an absolute truth. Baudrillard came up with the idea hyperreality. Hyperreality is seen as a condition in which what is real and what is fiction are seamlessly blended together so that there is no clear distinction between where one ends and the other begins.I feel some people can't distinguish the difference between reality and fiction, they believe everything on Tv is truth. Hopefully by adding a fake Tv will help convey to my audience that 'beauty' on Tv isn't real, there is soo much more behind it.
It will then go into the first scene where I will show people trying to construct a model into what they see is 'beauty' I will sexualised my model to show that black females are sexualised in videos. She will start off with clothes she believes is appropriate then the people around her will make her change. They will make her over etc ... Then to convey that the media transmits that white is more 'beautiful' one the models, will go to the laptop and tell her to behave like her (pose, make up, hair). After the shoot everyone will leave the room apart from Sara, there will be a shot reverse shot of her looking at the model on the screen. The second scene will show how the media edits pictures. I also try address some controversy on social media. A lot of people are angry at the fact the black women are slander about the weight, noses, big lips but now its a trend. Many celebs like Kylie Jenner, Iggy are getting surgery to have these features and are being called beautiful however black women are compared to animals and other things.
I will show a variety of black features and use found footage of people getting plastic surgery. To show that what women of colour is beautiful and we shouldn't put ourselves down.
Throughout the music video I will have performance, I will keep it basic in a dark room of a male rapping.
The next scene will show students in a classroom being taught about inspirational females and only show white women. In sociology learning about difference feminist especially black feminist I want to show that even in institutions like school teach what is the more dominant women. In school when speaking about people of colour you normally learn about slavery and their oppression, it is argued that this knocks down, black students self esteem, subsequently leading to underachievement.
I will then end the video with all my models holding pictures of inspirational black leaders, showing that their is hope.
The shot will be of a Tv switching off saying Black is Beauty.
locations
Most of my video will be shot mainly in my schools drama room, here will be great to film as there is artificial lighting. Also it will be a great set up for my video when filming the scene where the female character is being 'made perfect'.
In dalston and shoreditch there are a lot of art work that I feel will be captivating. I feel Southbank will be a nice place to do filler shots. I feel filming in a classroom helps to emphasis how black girls are constantly taught what is beauty, and the fact the institutions are doing it without realising. Society is corrupt that they don't even realise that are basically brainwashing people.
costume/props
Here are pictures of my props.
I have decided to print and laminate pictures of inspirational black women i.e Michelle Obama for my models to hold.
I will have a laptop to represent how the media edits everything, technology is our new reality.
I have also decided to magazines that have white women on the covers to represent the lack of black women on them.
In the beginning my model will wear a revealing out just to represent how women are dressed in Hip Hop video's and how being sexualised is seen as beauty.
However throughtout my video my main models will wear all black to show them as a collective. That they are all going through the same thing.

successful
I think my music video will be successful because of the message behind it. Highlighting inequalities in society means people can relate to the video. Also by picking a that is well known ( Number 12 on Billboard) meaning the song made impact on people especially for my target audience. I've spoken to my TAP and others, when talking to them they really enjoyed listening to my ideas.
I also feel using the song and challenging Hip-Hop conventions will make my video unique. For example using different camera shots like extreme close-ups. And not sexualising my models.
