  2. Real-Life Grammar Facts
  3. Grammar Lesson (Notes)
  4. Prologue - Monster

Only if you're opting out!

Here's what we're going to do about it:

  • Parts of speech (Montessori approach)
  • Sentence structure
  • Commonly confused words
  • Fixing common errors

noun = person, place, thing, or idea

verb = action

Write two sentences, each of which uses at least two nouns and at least one verb.

Label all of the nouns and verbs using the shapes.

  1. In the line “The best time to cry is at night,” (Myers 6) what emotions is Myers trying to evoke?

  2. Steve says that a fight broke out that morning because "somebody said some little thing and somebody else got mad" (Myers 2).

    1. What do you notice him repeating in that line?

    2. What is this repetition supposed to emphasize?

  3. Steve seems to find it odd that "[the prisoners are] strangers, but they still find reasons to hurt each other" (Myers 3).

What might this suggest about his character (the type of person he is)?

  4. Why does Steve say that, if his life were a movie, it would be "a strange movie with no plot and no beginning" (Myers 3)?

  5. How does Steve describe what the film of his life would look like? What might this represent to him?
