Marda working Group for PHase Field Schema

Daniel Wheeler

Phase Field Workshop, 2023-08-17

What is a MARDA working Group

  • Small group 6-10 people to meet periodically
    • Monthly?
    • Last for one year
  • We need some people from outside this group
  • 6 working groups thus far, tend to be quite abstract motivation and deliverables
  • Deliver a report at the MaRDA meet in Spring 2024

EXAMPLES

Motivation

  • Improve FAIR and FAIR4RS practices in phase field
    • Make phase field data more F and A (more than I and R
    • Categorize things:
      • software frameworks
      • numerical methods
      • problem specs
    • Registry of phase field simulations
    • AI potential
  • David Elbert is enthusiastic and provided useful ideas

data Aspirations

  • Collect enough data to
    • evaluate the code implementation verification
      • order of accuracy claim
      • solve consistently
    • evaluate the code solution verification
      • does the code solve the correct equation?
    • validate the code
      • Is the code efficient (best method, language, implemented well)?
    • compare codes
    • make results findable and accessible (FA, not IR)

IMpact / Deliverable ideas

  • Generate a schema and use it as basis for PFHub
  • Provide tools to generate and lint phase field schema compliant metadata file
    • similar to metadata.json for FAIR4RS
  • Generate phase field data examples with metadata
  • Demonstrate secondary data aggregation and data views using metadata
  • More general registry of phase field problems (and simulations)
  • Work with data hosts to improve native metadata descriptors
  • Tie in with MaRDA data extractors

People

  • Daniel Wheeler
  • Trevor Keller
