Efficacy of anticoagulation after knee arthroscopy/lower leg casting
Title Text
Two randomized, open-label, blinded outcome evaluation trials.
1,543 Patients undergoing knee arthroscopy (POT-KAST) or lower-leg casting (POT-CAST) were randomized to receive either low molecular weight heparin (731) or no anticoagulation (720) for 8 days post arthroscopy/duration of casting.
Outcome measure: symptomatic venous thromboembolysm and major bleeding 3 months after the procedure.

Conclusion
Prophylactic anti-coagulation with low-molecular-weight heparin after knee arthroscopy (8 days) or during immobilization due to casting (whole period) is not effecttive for prevention of VTE.
