What is the difference?
According to your preferences and their legal and practical possibilities, you can either
1) marry
2) enter into a legal cohabitation agreement
3) or you can live together without any legal status
This lesson will discuss each status.

Why is there a decrease in marriages and increase in divorces?
Causes decreasing number of marriages
- Fewer young adults
- Rising popularity of other forms of cohabitation (legal cohabitation, living alone)
- Women are more economically independent
- Less arranged marriages
- Detraditionalization
Causes increasing number of divorces
- Change in divorce legislation (shorter)
- People live longer
- Increase in same-sex marriages, also leads to more divorces
