Ways of Knowing are a check on our instinctive judgements
Ways of Knowing alter the perception of a person's instinctive judgements
- Why are people's embedded instincts susceptible to change?
- Why are learned behaviors difficult to change?
- Why are some ways of knowing (faith) more effective on a person's instinct than others (reason)?
- Some people do not always alter their judgments based on their knowledge
- Learned behaviors are easily forgotten through behavioral conditioning
- Faith is reason to certain people
- Discuss real world examples (Christians believe in predestination which leaves little room for logic)
- Personal examples (Touching an iron as a child becomes a memory and effects one's instinct NOT TO EVER TOUCH AN IRON AGAIN OH GOD THAT WAS THE WORST
- Make sure to differ between belief and instinct (are they all that different?)
- Include the ways of knowing that most effectively support thesis
Ways of Knowing can be a result of instinctive judgements
- Why does instinct come before experience?
- Instinctive judgments can be false
- Are instinctive judgments a result of a person's upbringing?
- Some people do not acquire instincts until they experience something
- Instinctive judgments are usually true (Why is that?)
- The ways of knowing are, arguably, incorporated into a person's upbringing
- Research instinctive behaviors (catching or dodging something coming towards you or other reflexes)
- The eye on the stove is red with heat, a coke can is also red; should I not touch it?
- Imagination is often stressed during childhood. How does that affect a person's instinctive behavior?
Learned behavior can be a result of ways of knowing or can be altered by the ways of knowing
- Is emotion a learned behavior?
- Can innate behavior be changed?
- What alters learned behavior?
- Emotion is innate
- Innate behavior cannot be changed, it is embedded
- Instinct is also innate, not learned
- Research various experiments regarding innate and learned behavior
- Determine your opinion on which ways of knowing are learned and which ones are innate (provide support!!!)
- Can ways of knowing alter innate/learned behavior? HOW? PROVIDE EXAMPLES
