Workflow with the EU

As the part of the EUHUB, we will be working with the HMI team and US, Netherlands, Spain and Italy teams to support/develop MediaOS. The current platform for these sites are divided into 4 types for these regions:

Data migrated to MediaOS - content is migrated from existing CMS, such as EZ Publish or EE

Greenfield - Content is syndicated or copied from the .com/uk sites

Joint Venture - Licensed to other publishers and will remain on their platform

         Planned to migrate to MediaOS

               On-boarding

In the UK and across the EUHUB we are working on on-boarding DEV/QA to MediaOS using more focused docs on http://docs.hdigital.net, screen casts, decks for face-to-face training sessions.

Training Deck

Docs

http://docs.hdigital.net/devboxes.html

Process

  2. Overview of the code architecture
  3. Toggling between sites using the site config on the devbox
  4. Setup of new region/brand themes
  5. Extending theme templates
  6. Making css/js changes
  7. Upgrade Process

Migration Toolkit

We are working on a migration toolkit with HMI using JS and AWS to streamline migrations from any platform called (Q)uack.

Codebase: https://github.com/HearstUK/migrations

Overview

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  • Distributed
    • Able to run on multiple machines  so we can control speed and so that it scales to any site
  • Source Agnostic
    • Able to import data from any site and source or mix of sources
      • DB Connection
      • Binary files
      • Site Scraping
  • Modular and Reusable
    • Written in a manner that allows us to reuse code from one migration to the next

UK CORE Case Study

As the part of the EUHUB, we will be working with the HMI team and US, Netherlands, Spain and Italy teams to support/develop  and contribute to the CORE in MediaOS.

With the new DS re-platform we  have done this by following the governance review process with HDM and adding the below CORE features to MediaOS

New CORE features

  1. Mega Menu
  2. Home page with feeds

CORE: Mega Menu

CORE: 3 Column Feed

  1. Optimised JIRA workflow added to the tower
  2. UK JIRA migration almost complete
  3. More QA on devboxs using the QA app developed by Peter Csoka
  4. In conversation with the US about sharing automation with QA
  5. More code peer reviews before testing by QA

JIRA & QA Process

As part of our upcoming roadmap we will be looking supporting/developing our existing UK MediaOS sites and moving Elle, Harpers Bazaar and Esquire to MediaOS
