Matter
By: Jillian Sperico
Matter
Anything that has mass and takes up space.
Physical Property
Used to observe and describe matter.
Chemical property
Observed by changing the chemicals identity of a substance.
Change
Make or become different
physical change
Changes that affect the form of a substance, not the chemical composition
Chemical Change
A change that causes a new chemical substance to form.
Indicator
A substance that undergoes distinct observable when the conditions of its solution changes.
Catalyst
A substance that increase the state of the rate of a chemical reaction without it having a permanent chemical change.
Chemical Reaction
A rearrangement of a substance structure , not physically but chemically.
Solution
A liquid mixture that in which the minor component is distributed within the major component.
Solute
The minor component in the solution, mixed in with the solvent .
Combustibility
How easy a substance can catch on fire, through fire or combustion.
Sublimation
The transformation of a solid substance to a gas , skipping the liquid phase.
Pure Substance
A substance made up of only one type of atom or molecule.
Compound
A thing with two or more elements . A mixture.
Mixture
A substance made by mixing different substances together.
Homogeneous mixture
A solid, liquid or gaseous mixture that has the same proportions of its components throughout the sample
Heterogeneous Mixture
Made of different substances that remain physically separate.
Precipitate
Cause a substance to be deposited in solid form from a solution.
Endothermic reaction
The process of which the system absorbs energy from its surroundings.
Exothermic reaction
A chemical reaction that releases energy by light or heat.
Law of Conservation of Mass/Matter
States that Matter can not be created or destroyed by chemical reactions or physical transformations.
Reactants
A substance that undergoes a change during a reaction
Products
Species formed from a chemical reaction
Method
A way of finding an answer to your questions, using hypothesis, calculations and more.
Publish
A way of making a book, journal or other work seen in the public
Illustrate
Provide proof or clear up something with pictures. Examples of something.
Exaggerate
Making something sound bigger, better or worse than it really is.
Complicate
