Write for five minutes about the follow question:

Regardless of your level of familiarity with our work, what assumptions do you have about what a peer writing tutor is and/or what a peer writing tutor does?

What is the UCWbL?

Pair up with someone you don’t already know (well) and share your responses with each other to the two previous questions

Note what’s similar and different in your responses

What is the UCWbL?

Whole group sharing

Write for five minutes about the follow question:

McLeod & Miraglia (2011) argued that “if writing is a mode of learning, if it is a way of constructing knowledge, then the integration of writing with learning will continue…to be seen as a central feature of the learning process.” How has writing been related to your own learning process(es) or construction of knowledge?

WORKING

AS A GA

As an UCWbL Graduate Assistant (GA)

you will divide your time between
your leadership work
your peer writing tutor work

BUT!

Week 1 of classes
(Wednesday, September 7-Tuesday, September 13) you will only work for 10 hours.

You will schedule these 10 hours later this afternoon when you have your team assignment

Where did the other 10 hours go, you ask?

5 Hours to All-staff Orientation on September 6

5 Hours to Professional development throughout the quarter

The first half of the quarter will look a little bit different for new GAs

Weeks 2-5 (approximately): working with your team and completing training

Weeks 5-10: dividing time between teamwork and tutoring
